College beers: When, where & what?

    I was in college in the late 70's to early 80's at LeMoyne College in Syracuse...Dolphy Day!!!...Besides kegs of the cheap stuff like Schmidts and Genny Cream ale, we 'treated' ourselves to Old Vienna splits, Moose Head & Bradors from Canada. How about you???

    The guys across the hall from our suite had an old Coke machine that they'd load with the OV splits....all you needed was a quarter. I think they all paid their tuition off of our alcoholism!

    College was 05-09 at University of Delaware, started with drinking macro crap like Keystone, Busch, Miller Lite, and Miller High Life. Once I turned 21 I was still drinking Miller Lite and High Life, but started trying what DFH had to offer since it was brewed in Delaware. Once I got a full time job I switched to only craft, thank you DFH for opening my eyes to great beer!

    Mid 90's when ice beers were the rage...as college kids we loved the 5-6% abv...Icehouse, Bud Ice, and Natty Ice!

    Graduated last spring...$9.99 cases of Busch Lite were the go-to since Greek life wasn't allowed to have kegs; downtown, special Clemson orange Bud Light cans.

    Of course, there were some stores with very solid beer selections for a small town...one place had Chimay 750 ml bottles for $7.99 - by far the best price I've seen in the state. Also got to try a ton of awesome in-state stuff from Coast and Westbrook as well as NC and GA breweries.

    I'm in college right now (on second degree, but still in 20s so relatively young). I only do craft. Crazy parties and kegs of whatever's cheap and available? Not for me, thanks. I'd rather read up on my organic chemistry and genetics over a nice barleywine.

    Mid 2,000's. Either Natty or Beast Ice. Split the case / 12 with my roommate. Can't beat the $5 / $2.50 price tag. towards the end I became a snob and switched to Labatts............ good times
