I believe the variants are brewery-only and priced at $10/ea so limited availability but not overly expensive. Personally, the most recent trade I did was 2:4 - Abraxas + Mexican Cake for BA/Cocoa-Nut/PB&J/Coffee.

I've got what @ONovoMexicano has ... stout/porter glass. It's called a "stout glass" in the Libbey set sold by Target (I have two ). I call it a "vertical tulip" or "stout glass", but I'm not sure what it really is because I've also seen pilseners shaped a lot like it. It's a cool glass ... don't use mine much, but it works very nicely, obviously much like a tulip.

Speaking of working ... it's special section time in the sports newspaper world where I reside, so I had to do a little work on my off day. Just a peek if you're interested:

It's my off day, so hell, yes, I keep tabs on NBS while I'm slaving away for The Man. :stuck_out_tongue:

But all that is over for now, and we're back on the beer trail for a New GOSE Sunday!

(photo's kind of soft, dangit :flushed:)

The Original Leipziger Bier is fantastic! Big tasty grain, a little tart something (lime?), a couple three pinches of coriander and a really cool musty aroma that opens up into a mix of the tart grain dancing with a pinch of barley malt sweetness ... drinking this beer really drives home why so many love the good gose. If I could pick this up in 6-packs, my fridge would be swollen full of it from June to September. Just fantastic.

The variants see distro. We were fortunate enough to get Coffee and Vanilla (but I didn't see PB&J or Cocoa-nut) near me.

I'm sure it's very limited, and might be just once a year. But we got a fair number of bottles, and our area just recently saw Jack's Abby distro introduced, so you should definitely be able to score some to trade at shelf value, no problem.

Greetings and salutations, NBSers! Today is a big day for me - rated/reviewed beer #1,500!!! I'm not normally a "milestone" guy, but 1,500 unique beers makes me wanna jump around, and I'm most happy because I can share this with you fine folks.

I noodled over which beer to review for #1,500 a bit, and finally settled on this ......

I selected this beer and this brewer because:

    1. I love black DIPA's.

    2. Bell's Two Hearted Ale was a "turning point" beverage in my beer nerd journey (in a very positive way).

    3. Bell's takes chances. Most hit, but some miss. I appreciate that they take chances, regardless of the outcome (as they did in the planet series). Actually, I LOVE brewers that take chances.

    4. Bell's sticks labels on bottles like they have me doing the labeling in my garage. That has always cracked me up.

Anywho, thanks for enduring my little tale. Here's the review (and have a stupendous Sunday, NBSers):

    4.4/5 rDev +3.3%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5

Look: jet black, 2+ fingers of tan head.

Smell: chococlate/toffee/caramel maltiness - but some piney hops shine through.

Taste: the malts share the stage with the piney/citrusey hops. For a beer that pours at 9.5% ABV, there is no alcohol to be found, which is remarkable.

Feel: creamy from the malt, but a bit of hop tang on the tongue.

Overall: Bell's is one of my "go to" favorite brewers, and this beer is a great example why. Huge flavors - and no booze to be found. Well done by the folks at Bell's.

Vanilla an coffee are available retail and I've had both many times. Haven't seen or tried the Coco-nut though.

Last Year I really loved working with Calypso hops. Very Herbal Tea with ripe Pear meat flavor. My favorite variety for Hop Tea.

Ahoy again NBS'ers! I'm cheating this week - 2 new beers in 1 day. I have no self control, haha. But I'm back with a great one. I've usually steered clear of imported beers, simply because of my lack of knowledge on them. But when I saw the 8 and 10 side-by-side at the local shop today, I figured I'd pick up one of each. Reluctantly, I paid the $14 for two 330 mL bottles I'd never had. Ouch. If the 10 turns out to be as good as this one, though, I'll be content. I could easily see drinking a few of these on Thanksgiving and/or Chirstmas with dinner and family.

    Da re...view

11.2 oz. bottle into a Duvel glass. Pours medium brown with a slight red tint. Lots of yeast sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Settles dark brown/red in the glass. Somewhat cloudy in appearance with a huge amount of carbonation. 3 fingers of sticky, vanilla-colored foam sit on top of this mammoth beer. Complex aroma on this one consisting of clove, oak, leather, dark fruit, pepper, and sour grapes. Medium-heavy weight with a slightly carbonated, yet, inherently creamy mouthfeel. Wow, what a beer. I've had imperial stouts that were lighter in body than this beer. Wonderfully full mouthfeel. Smokey, roasted malts, clove spice, leather, and tons of dark fruit initially on the taste. There's a lurking sourness in the background, but it's more of an over-ripeness of the fruit than a typical 'wild ale' character. This is more evident on the taste vs than on the smell. A mild booziness creeps in middleways, and is more defined on the back end. Loads of leather and dark fruit come through on the back end and into the aftertaste. Quite sweet on the finish, and velvety-smooth.

Overall, this is an excellent, excellent beer. I'd heard of this beer prior to purchasing it, but I had no idea it was so highly-acclaimed. I decided to give it a shot, and wow. I'd say this is in my top 10 favorite beers of all time. One of the best mouthfeels I've encountered - just super creamy and full all the way through. At 9.2%, it's no small fry. But the alcohol is hidden well. Plenty of pleasant flavor to enjoy from start to finish. The only negative is the yeast sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Doesn't bother me, but it's a no-go for some folks. If you're one of them, just be sure to pour gently.

    Da scores

2011. Grabbed this on a recent trip to Ohio. Have been wanting to try it for some time now. Poured at 48 degrees and allowed to warm. Appearance is a rich dark brown with good carbonation. Smell is amazing - a quad with a lot of fruit, spice, and caramel. I am getting grapes and cherries. Vanilla. Taste is so smooth. Rich caramel, a bit of nut, and sweet fruit. Great mouthfeel. Didn't disappoint! Cheers!

    NBS!!
Super late entry for me today, I usually like to enjoy Sunday's new beer late morning/early afternoon, but I just got back yesterday from a week & a half in Peru (!!!) and had a lot of house work to catch up on. Beer certainly helped with that but the work ended up in a late post.
My local store had gotten several new beers at their growler station while I was out of the country, including a new to me brewery! ALPINE and their well-rated DUET was my new beer today.
This is a very good beer, though being an IPA from the west-coast it doesn't fit that style. Much more stone fruit/tropical fruit than the usual citrus/pine. But the flavor pure and the beer balanced, giving it over a 4.25 overall. I haven't seen any Alpine beers in bottle in Ohio yet but will definitely be keeping my eyes open.
    Cheers!

    Greetings All:

Checking from a very smoky northwest.

Today it's Session IPA. A affordable brew in stubby 11 oz bottles I picked up on a trip to Oregon last weekend.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5316/144079/

As I said smoky, but the nearest wild fire is 80 miles away. Temps in the mid 80's so it would be nice if not for the damn fires. We need good rain in the worst way.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

Actually their Barrel aged beers and they use open tank fermentation are what really stands out for me. I love their Derivative and I haven't tried their IPAs yet but Keraterra and Harper 1 sours are fantastic.....

One more new one tonight. My wife was in Detroit over the weekend, and she brought me a four pack of a local beer back with her. This is Roak Brewing's Kashmir. It has been a good day for can/bottle artwork, and this one is no exception.

Very nice dark fruit flavors and aromas. Makes for a nice sipper.

Greetings NBS aficionados! Trying to sneak at least one in after a long day of watching baseball. Fall is quickly approaching and the seasonal creep of said beer is in full swing! Trying some Atwater Brewery Pumpkin Spice Latte found in one of my local stores. It's labeled ale brewed with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and coffee. The abv. is 6% and the bottle date is August/15.

Pours a reddish orange color with minimal foam and carbonation. The aroma is spice heavy with cinnamon and nutmeg. It has flavors that copy the aroma with predominantly cinnamon and nutmeg. There is a bit of pumpkin well hidden amongst the spices. Not getting anything coffee forward which is a bummer. Feel is thin and rather boring for something labeled a latte.

My opinion? The flavor is serviceable enough to make it drinkable, but I'm disappointed in something labeled a latte that's lacking a coffee presence and a creamier mouthfeel. Not a total waste, but short of being special. I'll stick to Schlafly and Pumking for my pumpkin fix in the future.

    My review......

Greetings from a lazy Sunday in NNJ. I've been so busy with work the whole summer that today I just needed a mental vacation, so I puttered around the kitchen and did really nothing much. The only productive and forward-thinking I did was to jar up some pickled eggplant with a few eggplants and red chiles that needed harvesting anyway. These jars will be perfect around Thanksgiving when I share them with the rest of the family. Since it's too warm even in the basement to store them, I had to make room in my beer fridge- so that meant that something had to go.

Here's a great beer off of the top shelf-
    [IMG]
    Traquair Jacobite Ale
You can't see it in this photo, but that's a gorgeous translucent mahogany brown with ruby around the edges. The head is dense and rich and won't go away after settling down to 1/4". The aroma is rich, complex and slightly vinous. Molasses, dates, coriander, cherries, fruitcake and cocoa all vie for attention, but it's the dark fruits that wind up taking center stage. Way underneath, hints of wood become apparent if you are searching for it. It's almost like a Scotch Ale as interpreted by a maker of Belgian dubbels. The palate also starts with a malty/fruity bang, but then quickly dries out, becomes spicy/bready and ends with a pleasing snap of cocoa-like bitterness and a long wave of oak. Dried cherries make a return way late after the swallow.

Masterful job, and a real pleasure for every drop. Best beer I think I've had in a long while, and I can't believe it took me so long to get to it (especially considering how much I enjoy their House Ale). A+ (4.75)
