UGH! My wife told me that I had too much beer in the cellar and had to stop buying and drink more. I never thought of it as being overboard because I drink every few days and buy randomly. She made me put a standard face value/MSRP on everything I had. We inventoried and totaled it up.(this does not include shipping for any trades) A little over $2,500. Needless to say, it was a shocking assessment. I'm just hoping I'm not alone. I always wanted to do this but have been putting it off because I guess I just really didn't care/want to know. Please tell me that this is semi-normal for the majority of BAs on here.

Note: this happened a few weeks ago and my awesome wife has picked a few local bottles up for me while I have been out of town.

    Cheers fellow over spenders!

I would never do this. I need plausible deniability when asked by me wife

Recently did the same thing (also at my wife's request) and came up with a rough estimate of around $5K. Actually took some photos for insurance purposes...how quickly our little hobbies become more than that. I remember when I had a few bottles in a cabinet, now it's 350+ bottles.

    Cheers!

I've got a good 2k plus. Really don't want to think about it since it's a hobby....and I don't want to feel like crap for it. I was throttled from spending by the wife a few weeks ago.... BA problems! Haha

I get it. I know there are a bunch of beer "collectors" out there who would feel embarrassed to comment here. I have explained it to my wife before,"There is a certain style of beer for every time of the year, but when you have a taste for something specific, nothing else will do."

Edit: Thanks to the mods for placing this correctly.

I have a spreadsheet with every single bottle purchase that I've made since 2013, outside my first few purchases, but that was back when it was me trying all the Stone & DFH I could get my hands on. I don't have money spent at bars on there though. I haven't hit total on that in a while, but I did once, about a year or so back (and it wasn't pretty).

I've been meaning to make an up to date cellar list. I could put in the prices. A good 1/4 of the $$$ is due to that damn Stone Berlin kickstarter. Two local beer clubs don't help either, but I'm probably dropping them this year (didn't quite live up to my expectations).

    I'm probably sub-$1.5k.

I'm the same way with all my other purchases too.

I agree with the plausible deniability comment.

But frankly, if I would count it up, I can firmly say that it is Cory King's fault.

I made a spreadsheet of my cellar too as it kept expanding. Was around $2k, now down to around $1.7k as a lot of stuff hit the 2-3 year mark and I drank into it a bit.

What i've always thought about doing was valuing my cellar according to MBC and see what the number is. I've decided against it though as I would never sell my beer for $$$ and don't need that number sitting in my head affecting how I think about my beer.

    It's a shameful number.

I hate looking at MBC and some of the other grey market lists. Makes some of the bottles in the cellar seem too fancy to drink.

Just a quick rough estimate looking at my spreadsheet, which doesnt include prices, came out to about 7k.

I'd be terrified to calculate the MSRP. I'd never even think about totaling the "secondary market value".

    IE: VSB ≠ $8.

No, but taking a quick look at my spreadsheet, I do have over 100 bottles alone from the bruery, and at least 60 RR sours. Then around 30 eclipse/bart/ 50/50 BA beers. Those are just the most dominate ones in my cellar.

Wowza! I know those Bruery bottles can get up there in price.

Yea really Snowballs being part of the Bruery RS or HS society... You get about 10 beers for joining plus 1-3 every month with 3-6 bottle limits a piece on the monthly allotments, plus archive beers. It's fuckin madness

I am nearing 1,100 btls. Perhaps 50 Rare Barrel and Uplands @ $25 per. Wondering what my average per bottle cost might be? Gotta think around $8-10 which would put the cellar at about $10k. Glad none of you know how to contact my wife!

Are we talking retail or acquired value here. I lost track of how many bottles I have since many have been acquired via some sort of trade...will find out soon but retail value alone on 6 crates of Westvletern 12 and 50+ bottles of Cantillon plus whatever else is lost in the basement I have no clue. Glad crates at the monastery are only like 55 Euros  and Cantillon bottles are cheap at the brewery
