For me, I'd have to say Tucher. I used to buy their hefe- and dunkelweizen quite frequently, but quickly found that the quality control varied so much that I stopped buying. I don't know if it was truly the quality control, or if the beer was old/improperly stored, but I ended up switching to SN Kellerwies when I wanted my hefe fix.

What about you BAs? Anyone else stop buying a beer they LIKED because the quality was so inconsistent?

Foothills Jade. Some batches are really stellar, others are so so. Obviously never bad, but after you have a great batch it's a disappointment when the next offering is average.

For a long time, it's been Smuttynose FinestKind. However, based on recent comments and reviews, it looks as though I'll have to change that stance

Sad to hear. My first trip to NC was about the same time Jade came out (mine is the 5th review). My exposure to it was stellar. I'm coming back next year, Foothills, so get your act together.

I guess that's the inherent issue of a single-hop IPA, especially a relatively limited-cultivation one such as Pacific Jade. I'd imagine it's likely a result of variations between the different crops of the hop, with plant stressors playing a big role in the flavor of the beer. For what it's worth, Jade has been stellar every time I've had it, but I haven't had every batch.

    Bootlegger's Knuckle Sandwich.

I suppose it was consistent in that it never was the same beer twice. I have always been mystified why the hype train coupled itself to this beer.

Sucks. I still try to find it fresh once in a while but it falls off so fast it's almost impossible.

Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. On a good day, it's good beer, but on off days it's awful and those happen rather often.

    Do local bars count?

There is a place in my new town, I swear they don't clean their lines because the beer tastes awful. I've had my fair share (read: a lot) of Ninkasi Total Domination and I know what it tastes like. It's one of their house beers and it tastes worse each time I try it. I don't want to be "that guy" so I just order other beers or Tanqueray & tonics/Makers & ginger.

I love Total Domination too and it's the only place it's on tap in town =(

DC Brau for the most part, aside from being inconsistent, I really don't know why they don't up the production of OTWOA and distribute it locally. It's by far their best year round beer but I'm done driving to their shitty brewery in it's terrible location to pay ~$20/sixer.

Wow, so much this....I totally agree.

I said this in the other "consistently good IPA" thread. Another one for me is DFH 60 which is soooooooo inconsistent. When it's good, it's mind blowing. When it's bad, it's drain pour bad.

I completely agree^. DFH 60 would be my pick as well.

Not to pick on the big dogs but Zombie for me also, on draft spectacular, one or two days old can be a 100 or an 80.

I hear you. I actually had it earlier this summer at the brewery and had the same experience. Not sure if it's a new recipe, equipment, or just my shifting palette. Two years ago I would have been thrilled to try it at the source.

My favorite beer there was actually the java power.

Not sure if it is a change in my taste preference, but for me Dirtwolf isn't what it once was. More cloyingly sweet now. Used to be a favorite.
