Yes, there may have been a prior post but I just thought of it so here goes. When you review a beer, does price factor into the rating because you expect more as the price gets higher? It's a natural tendency, I believe, since many [incorrectly] believe a higher price equals a better product.

It doesn't factor in the rating of the beer for me, but it does factor into whether I buy that beer again or not. Was the rating worth the price?

I think your observation is right on. There are many reviews that I look back on and think, I rated that high because someone gave it to me, or I rated that lower because I thought it cost too much. It's only human nature. I firmly believe in tweaking the rating until I am all done with the beer. So if I have six I have that much time to change my mind. I also tend to be harder on my locals than on the others because that seems reasonable. =)

No. However it does 100% effect repurchase decisions. Im not going to buy a $20 bomber again if I dont think I got my moneys worth.

It does not change my ratings, but it may make me not purchase the beer in the first place or purchase again if I didn't rate it as "omg I want more so bad".

Price does not effect my rating.

But if I also do a review, I might mention something along the lines of "its a good value" or "It doesn't live up to its price point".

It does not affect my ratings either. That said if I thought something was a really good value or over-priced, I will put in a comment under the overall portion.

Absolutely it does. Not by much, but factors like availability and price affect my overall rating for the beer. I try to be objective in my smell or flavor ratings and rate them as they deserve to be rated, but if the brewery has such a high esteem for a beer that it's priced higher than it deserves, that reflects how good or elite the beer is "supposed" to be, and part of my overall rating and satisfaction of a beer is whether it lives up to itself.
Just like a fruit beer will get lower ratings if it tastes great, but just not like that fruit, or a hard-to-find beer could be really good, but not worth the effort it takes to get it (I'm looking at you, Pliny), if a beer prices itself above its quality, then it could still be a fantastic beer but with a lower overall rating since it's not worth the price. That's why I will probably not be able to give a beer like Utopias a high rating because no beer (that I can get at the local grocery store, no less) will likely be worth $200 to me as far as quality goes.

No, not really. I've known about that potential bias effect on ratings for years, and I typically buy several beers at one time with the intent of having some (e.g., a case of Troeg's Sunshine Pils) for immediate consumption and the intent of cellaring others (e.g., last fall's Hardywood Gingerbread Stout). The price of bottles, six-packs, and cases gets mixed in to the total bill and the beers get sorted at home into the fridge and temporary location in the basement. What gets preserved in my spreadsheet inventory of what I currently have is date of purchase, freshness date information and an estimate of how soon it should be finished off.

Typically by the time I get to around drinking a particular bottle from the basement inventory I honestly couldn't tell you what I paid for it and I don't bother looking it up before drinking and reviewing the beer. For example I have 3-4 different years of Hanssens' Guezes (small bottle, corked and caged) in the basement and not the faintest idea off the top of my head what I paid for any of them.

It does have an effect. If I'm rating a beer it would factor that into the Overall portion.

Come on, BA's! Affect, not effect. We don't need another palate/pallet/palette situation here.
^And here is the correct way to use "effect"!

Please don't factor price into ratings. Some of us actually use ratings/reviews and trust that you're trying to be objective.

It doesn't affect my rating. However, if it's particularly expensive I'll usually note in the review if I think it lives up to the hefty price tag. Conversely, if I have a beer that comes at a really low price point I'll note the same. If a brew is really cheap and really good, I put it out there for people on the fence wondering if they're only gonna get what they pay for.

In short, it should not affect scores. I absolutely think its worth mentioning in reviews to help others with their purchase decision.

When I review and rate a beer I do it without price in consideration. I don't know how much another person is paying for the beer and I don't know how much it will cost in the future. I don't know what another person can afford or whether or not they care about the price. I base my review on the merits of the beer and leave it up to the individual to decide whether it is worth the cost.

On a personal note it does have an impact on whether or not I buy the beer again but once more that it is my own prerogative.

I agree with just about everyone on this thread who has said something along the lines of "price doesn't determine my ratings but it does determine whether I'll buy it again or not". This is particularly an issue with Belgian beers for me. I rate them highly as they are unlike anything else out there and often exceptionally good but I only buy them every now and then as a treat because they are easily two or three times expensive as other beers I drink.

It does if it's something stupid. If I paid $15 for a basic IPA that is as good as a $2 I will make note of it and rate it lower in the 'overall' category.
