I was about to say, where's FUCT when you need them?

Find some Hop Drop'n Roll from Noda in Charlotte. "Best beer brewed in North Carolina", he said. You also will not pay an arm, a leg, or first born.

I generally find Midwest beers overrated compared to their Cali/Colo/Pacific NW equivalents. For example: BCBS. It's a great bourbon stout, but Uncle Jacob's and BA Speedway are both better IMHO. It's simply too hyped.

I make a specific effort to buy and tout beers that are underrated. I have in mind, with this change in weather, Ipswich Oatmeal Stout. It doesn't need to be all "bourboned" up to be utterly delicious, and the price is right.

I don't think BA Speedway is a good comparison; much smaller batch. I guess the stronger version of BCBS gets in to Uncle Jacob's territory, but I think it isn't quite the same either. Parabola is probably the best comparison, at least in terms of availability and hype.

Seems to me this all comes down to preference. I would NEVER trade a bottle of parabola for BCBS except for $ for $.

Speaking of hype, or lack thereof...anyone local had Perrin No Rules yet?

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29952/172420/

Scores a 100, most Michigan folk scoring it a 4.999999 or higher(hyperbole). It seems to have some homerism going on, yet it is not trading very high at all.

I traded for a bunch and had a trading partner goandpickthatupforme(for which I am grateful for). I'm enjoying it but do not get the perfect score. Would not trade for more.

It's Michigan. I'm impressed they manage to tie their shoes every morning... :grinning:

It's not Mississippi, but close! haha.

Is it worth trading for? I seen some RIDICULOUS ISO's for their No Rules bombers. I want to try it... but not sure if I want contribute to the hype train.

It seems to go pretty easy for things like BT and GM....2:1 as they're about $16 per bomber.

It's good and has huge cinnamon, but it's just overdone on the adjuncts IMO.

I haven't had too much trouble trading for hype beers from the east...I typically trade brewery only releases/limited distro $4$.

In regards to No Rules, I just traded Xoco Charred/Extra AƱejo and 2x Mocha Machines for Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, BA Sexual Chocolate, Vanilla BA Framminghammer, and two 12 oz bottles of No Rules (which I prefer over the bomber).

Hope they are worth it, cause I love me some Xoco Charred :slight_frown: lol

Edit: Also wanted to add that I traded 3 pints of Pliny for a 4 pack of KBS, which wasn't too difficult for me to scrounge up in LA. Sadly I was a little disappointed in KBS.

I tried to trade BA abraxas and FO for a mornin delight(in which I thought I was super generous) and got crickets. C'est la vie

Whoa... I agree that's generous. Anything else you want for that BA Abraxas? Haha

KBS is especially weird. When I visited right outside of Boston last year it was essentially a shelf beer. That should trade with Parabola more than fairly.

Wow. Might be worth retrying after this weekend.

Parabola doesn't trade fairly with KBS? Give me Parabola all day.

Was this visit in 2009? I mean, maybe suburban Boston is different, but in Philly KBS has been pretty much $10-one-bottle-limit-sold-out-immediately-or-already-reserved since at least 2011. It stopped being worth the trouble and I even knew of people who traveled to GR for the release just to be guaranteed a case (of half?). It's technically a "shelf beer" but long ago are the days when you could stumble upon it. That's why people hang on to it so hard anymore.

There are so many factors making many of these posts "wrong"... First, there seems to be no consideration for difficulty to obtain. I love Parabola but find it easier to obtain in Michigan than BCBS. Parabola sits on shelves in Illinois (a quick jog from West Michigan) I doesn't sit long, but it does sit... BCBS and KBS are gone in minutes of release, with lines and limits.

No Rules is amazing. I know many of you may not want to believe that it deserves this kind of hype, but it is really good.

Is KBS overhyped? Yep. Is BCBS? Probably? But so are most Bruery beers and Pliny the Elder. Trade value = what someone is willing to give. If you'll give me a Chocolate Rain for 2 KBS, I will say yes every time... If you want a No Rules for Velvet Merkin, 1:1, I will laugh at you.
