Wow, it's almost as if women don't all have one brain, like a bee hive? It's almost as if they all have their own brains where one thinks something is sexist while another doesn't think that same act is sexist. They must not have gotten the memo that the entire female collective needs to be in lock step with their emotions as to not confuse @drtth.

I too am always disappointed by the amount of sexism I see just on these boards. It's pretty remarkable. [/QUOTE]

It is confusing . . . In OP's situation I say just give the guy some grace. I don't always know when I'm being a jerk to my wife and she doesn't always know when she's being an over the edge out of her mind crazy psycho.

Playing the devil's advocate a bit here, but, if the situation was turned, I think a lot of guys wouldn't mind playing naïve a little to prolong having a female flirt with him in a bar.

Actually, now that I think about it, the best thing for everyone in this world of constantly being offended by everything would be for everyone to just stop talking to everyone else. Immediately.

You forgot my favorite: guy is always portrayed as being a bumbling idiot and woman comes out as the shining genius.

It usually happens in my house this way but that's just us

Weird times we are living in these days. I try to stay away from people as much as possible. The whole "What was Good is now Bad and What was Bad is now Good" leaves me in Awe.

I'm glad to see your desire to tell people to settle down and relax doesn't just apply to women, as you're willing to apply it to me too. Perhaps you do support equality after all.

No need to get into this on a beer message board and I'll back off it with you now. If you don't see how your previous post supports the sexism the OP is referring to then there is no sense in me trying to help you see it.

Hmmm, now you're doing exactly what you routinely claim to protest against in most every post you've made in this thread so far. Making a horseshit response that drips contempt and assumes sexism in every choice of words.

Because the VAST majority of craft beer fans are male. It's rare to find a woman alone at a bar, let alone perusing a good beer menu. I don't think men assume on purpose or are trying to be sexist, it's just like seeing a unicorn and acting like it's a normal thing I guess (joking).

Yes this is definitely sexism. I've had dudebros tell me "whoa, you have to try this insane craft beer, it's called Harpoon IPA", but the way this guy approached it was less helpful and extremely condescending.

I think you failed to realize the neck beard was just an emoyee doing his job and you crushed him. Now he's questioning his ability as an employee. You should go back and apologize asap.

Let's forget all this nonsense, OP.
HEY, ever heard of a beer called DirtWolf? It's what's called a double IPA. I bet you never heard of that before *pumps chest out*

He was trying to holla for sure. Just for kicks, the next time this happens to you, ask the guy what their BA handle is and see where the conversation goes from there.

As for why: just because someone is enlightened about craft beer does not mean their general worldview is all that enlightened. Knuckle-draggers exist among all groups, but hopefully the percentage of assholes is slightly less in the craft beer drinking group than the macro beer drinking group.

I'm not sure a man telling this story would be accepted at his word for having "politely" refused given the extremely aggressive tone in the OP.

The comments here are pretty sad. Sounds to me like that guy was condescending with no effort at "hitting" on someone. If I was looking to hit on someone based on this scenario I would ask what she was drinking, compliment her on the choice, and then ask her for a recommendation.

    Give him hell.

It's how it is. Your white knighting isn't going change the facts. My wife was hit on at at a beer fest in RI the last two years running. Someone offering her help with a beer list would have been a pleasant interaction compared. It's not awesome that's the way it is but you certainly aren't going change it by berating people who point it out.

I think this was exactly what others have said. Trying to impress a women which has interest in craft beer. ( we need more spread the word) but being a complete ass hat about it is not going to get you anywhere. Instead I would have waited till you ordered then strike a conversation about the beer as an introduction. :sunglasses:
