There IS a limit of 240oz, and I would appreciate people at least respecting that it exists. Obviously generosity is never a BAD thing, but the last thing I want is for hauls to be ridiculous across the board and for people to start feeling like what they sent was inadequate despite meeting or exceeding the requirements. This BIF is about introducing new people to the concept, not about destroying porches. Part of that introduction should be some generosity, but at the same time I don't want anyone leaving feeling like they can't do it.
I thought @LehighAce06 did have a limit on the initial thread. Mainly to keep it relatively the same for everyone. I'll be close to the limit. No idea what the cost of shipping this box will be! Have never done anything this big. I know I won't have a problem with packaging, just can't wait to see what the cost is. Is it worthwhile to do 2 boxes?
Additionally, 2 announcements, one that has been alluded to above. First: UPDATE YOUR WANTS! Obviously you don't know where your sender is from, don't worry about putting on beers that they will specifically send you, just AT LEAST have some Wants that help tell a story of what you're looking for. As hints progress and you narrow down who your sender might be, THEN go back and add some things from a couple states based on the possibilities. Second: I'm eliminating the "early" shipping date. EVERYONE needs to send by the end of September, but no one is required to do so earlier than that. The reason for this is two-fold, first, I got targets out almost a week later than I wanted to, and I don't want anyone feeling like they have insufficient time to prepare. Also, everyone seems pretty gung-ho about this and I don't have any nagging question marks from anybody in the group, so I don't really think it's necessary anyway.
Some people definitely will do multiple boxes to make it easier to pack each. Shipping cost is typically only a couple dollars more this way than one very large box, so if it's easier to pack this way than in a large unwieldy box, go for it. I also recommend styro shippers when possible; they are nearly indestructible, and cut down significantly on packing time/effort/additional materials needed.
@LehighAce06 - Should people send you shipping confirmations & tracking numbers to verify they've actually shipped?
Also FYI - If you're shipping to one of our 2 participants from New Jersey, DO NOT use FedEx. There have been multiple reports that the local FedEx employees have been opening/confiscating/returning boxes that they think have beer in them. Don't risk it - ship UPS!
Absolutely! Thanks @RuckIt ! I've never used them and always have heard horror stories. UPS is the way to go.
Sure, but I won't require it. I'll keep track of hauls as they are posted, and as we near the end of the shipping window I'll start reaching out to people if there's anything missing. One thing I'll ask is that you keep and use the BM I have with you all to communicate addresses; for one thing so you don't lose your target's information, but also so that my inbox isn't cluttered with 2 BMs from each of you, it's messy enough as it is.
Hint #2 After a certain announcement was made today, my target can take PRIDE that their box will be PEACHY-keen
@Yourahoser Just wait till the packages start landing and your hawking your computer all day long just waiting for the **** to drop.
