Doesn't seem like EE is, and it doesn't seem like I'm the only one of that opinion. Actually it seems like a lot of the people who post in this thread were of that opinion long before I even got here.

Off the top of my head, this year they've done a dry-hopped Berliner weiss, a brett IPA, a number of sours including a sour kvass, a smoky barleywine, BA Gratitude, & a black tea imperial shandy. And they continue to offer their core & regular seasonals. That sounds like a balance of old & new to me.

Helltown has had a couple of new beers recently. They have a new hefeweizen and Wretched Belgian Pale recently that were good and last winter they did Sanctuary RIS that was great. I think that they are doing Sanctuary again.

Saying you make a good hefeweizen is like saying you're the smartest guy from Butler.

The thing that kills me about EE is they just tweak existing recipes...half of what you just rattled off are old recipes with one varying ingredient...or a different barrel treatment, etc...so "new" is a relative term to them.

This, and one of the sours, I think it was Crystal Schip? was an admitted accident on their part.

*sigh* Christ, you guys are picky. So what do you want to see East End doing that they're not?

EDIT: To elaborate - I kind of like that they take of approach of making variations on established recipes. It helps firm up their identity, as opposed to making a hundred different styles that bear no resemblance or house character. Lagunitas is my favorite brewery, if that says anything to you.

While I don't personally prefer Hefes, I realize that not all beers can be hop bombs or barrel aged. Feel that the ability to brew a solid version of a less sexy beer is a testament to the brewer/brewery. Like a great Pils, a really good Hefe has its place. Have you tried/do you like those from Weihenstephaner, Paulaner or Franziskaner (or even Drunk Monk from FFF)?

I'd love for them to brew a good IPA (this coming from a guy who isn't a huge IPA person anymore)

Honestly, I don't think people are picky, I think I for one, am bored with a lot of the local offerings. Thus I go to Voodoo a lot because they brew consistent beers and have different/random tappings that keeps it interesting.
