    Hey guys. First time poster.

I've been drinking DIPAs for a while now and finally found a favorite over summer (which is Boulevard's Double-Wide IPA), only to find out it's being discontinued.

Does anyone know of a beer along the lines of it? I've seen Sneaky Pete recommended once.

For those of you who havent tried it and still wanna recommend something, it's a well-balanced DIPA, more on the malty-sweet side if anything. 71 IBUs and 8.5% ABV

The Calling by Boulevard is as good if not better than Doublewide.

I tried that one since I heard it was replacing Double-Wide. It was great, no doubt - it was just missing that malt profile found in Double-Wide that I love. I'm going to retry it. Thanks

On a side note, I also found Founder's Dissenter IPL and Breckenridge 471 to be delicious and somewhat along the lines of what I'm looking for

Double wide was great. I haven't found anything all that comparable.
@TheJermis any plans to bring it back? And if not how about a homebrew recipe?

I think DogFish Heads 90 minute IPA is well balanced and definitely on the malty side. It was one of my first favorite IPA's for that reason.

Also, Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA is very well balanced with a nice bit of malt.

    Much better IMHO.

90 minute is similar but I think 90 is quite a bit sweeter than double wide.

Okay, I haven't tried it, so I was working off what he described his preferences are. If I was from Florida though, I would drink Jai Alai all day! LOL

You had the right idea and honestly for never having double wide and just going off his discription it's a good recommendation.

Interesting, 90 Minute didnt seem all that sweet to me. I'll have to revisit that as well. I'll also look for the Deschutes - thanks guys

Definitely better IMO. I was never a big fan of Doublewide.

I wasnt either, the malt background takes over a little too much and i thought it wasnt balanced at all, but in layers of flavor

I haven't ever had double wide, so going off your description, I was going to recommend 471 and 90 min, but looks like they were both already touched on!
    Maybe Maximus?

I'd also consider seeking out some imperial reds or "red IPAs" or whatever the particular brewery likes to call them. Many of these seem to have the hoppiness of an IPA or DIPA, with a stronger, sweet malty presence. Beers like G'Knight, Lagunitas Imperial Red, Hop Head Red, Red Rocket Ale, Nugget Nectar, etc.

Ha, I actually was drinking Maximus and 471 last night. I think 471 is actually too malty for my tastes. Maximus is great!

I've also had G'Knight (liked it a lot) and Lagunitas Imperial Red (loved it)... I've been looking for Nugget Nectar for forever! Thanks for the recommendations

Loved Lagunitas Imperial Red too. Actually, one I've had recently in that vein is Smuttynose Kindest Find (note: not Finestkind lol). Still a bunch of it on shelves here, tasty stuff!

I feel your pain! I've been a huge fan of Double Wide for years...it is one of the best-smelling beers ever, and is malt-forward in a much more appealing way than most East Coast IPAs I've tried, while still maintaining a honeyed and floral nose. The Calling is great, but it's a totally different beast--bright, citrusy, tropical, etc. In answer to your question, I'd say I've never found an IPA that I felt was really the same "style" of double IPA as Double Wide, which is what makes its current dormancy so disappointing...

The Calling is really good but I'm surprised no one mentioned Boulevard Heavy Lifting.

Imperial reds seem stronger but sweet with the malt calming it down. Try Hairey Eyeball if you can find it.

I am delighted they replaced Double Wide with The Calling, but they are definitely not the same beer... which is why I like The Calling more. I'm honestly not sure what the best analogue to Double Wide would be...

Good luck to us! I'll PM you if I ever succeed in this quest lol, otherwise let's hope Boulevard brings it back at least periodically for us Double Wide fans

Never would've expected any sub-7% ABV beers to be similar to Double Wide, but then again I've tried some in that range that are quite "big" beers. I'll keep an eye out, thanks!

Hairy Eyeball has been on my list to try for a while, because I tend to like strong ales, despite them being so different one to another
