i just recently got a spiegelau ipa glass and i love it. i use it for IPAs and my tulip for dIPAs.

do you use it for non IPAs? as a specific example, i have Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale which is not an ipa but an amber ale.

of course it's just a glass and any glass will do but anyone drink non IPAs out of an IPA glass? i won't melt right?

regular pint glass or go for the ipa glass? super crazy experiment i suppose
    Cheers

I'm not a Glassware **** but whatever glass I grab first is going to get the beer. Sometimes I drink a DIPA out of Pint Glass and other times I drink a 211 in a Wine Glass. I like playing Glassware Roulette, it's fun and keeps me Level Headed.

I've had incredibly good beer out of a red solo cup. If there is one thing that is so overrated in my opinion it is glassware..

Went to a newish brewery called grandmas house last night. They use a bunch of old glasses that you would find at your grannies place and use them for whatever. We were all drinking black ipa out of stangs, mini mugs, and the occasional goblet, while they poured their tasters into those old smuckers jam mini jars. All I could think of was all the BAs clamoring about glassware as I sat there.

I don't know why but I always drink Founders Curmudgeon from an IPA glass. No reason; just habit.

My comment might be moot since I don't own a spieglau glass. But I mostly always drink my IPAs/IIPAs from either my Duvel glass or my New Belgium snifter - yes because it enhances the aromas & whatnot, but also, I simply like how they feel in my hand. Conversely, I like to drink my stouts and sours from the same glasses for the same reasons. Not shitting on pint glasses, but I'm just not a fan of their feel. The fact (or, opinion?) that they don't do much for the aroma of the beer doesn't help, either.

On the flip side, I certainly wouldn't turn down a great beer, or even a decent beer, if my only option was a pint glass or a mug.

I guess what I'm getting at is, if you have a glass that you enjoy, use it for whatever you like! You bought the glass, and you bought the beer, so do it however you want.

Snifters work wonders for most styles----personally love my Delirium Tremens snifter for most brew except for lagers.

    Don't over think it.

Pale ale works fine out of the same glass you use for IPA.

    YES YES YES YES
    This.

Drink any beer from any glass that:
    1) gives you pleasure (very important) and
    2) doesn't leak (most important).
The rest is hype and marketing.
    (Opinions will, however, vary).

But of course, the "Sam Adams Perfect 'somewhat short of an actual pint' Glass" has definitely got to go :astonished: (though I have to admit, it was a pretty clever marketing gimmick).

My own personal preferences at home are either a 10oz Nonic (for most beers) or a big ol' brandy snifter (for the well aged hi test brews).

I had a decent IPA, (Goliad redfish IPA) from a plastic restaurant to-go cup last night. After a twelve hour labor intensive work day, it hit the spot. Do what you like!

I have a set of those, and I think they work well for most anything. I think they work especially well for pils, oktoberfest and saisons.

I have probably 20 different glasses... I would say most of the time, my tulips get the most use but I like to use them all depending on the beer.

Having a Spiegelau IPA glass for about six months now, I can say I have only used it a few times for non-IPAs, maybe an occasional IIPA or Saison. In my experience this particular glass, all other things being equal, does enhance the "head", much more as compared to pouring into a standard pint glass or a tulip. Seems well suited for IPAs and some other beer types for visuals and aromatics.

Generic Tulip for most, break out the big or little Duvel for pricey stuff and GF sculpin lol.

I have received much glassware as presents from well meaning friends and family. I do lose a few to breakage and usually have a replacement waiting in the attic. I do like using 'proper' glassware on purpose sometimes but most of the time I grab whatever's clean. As a rule I will try to use a snifter or tulip for IPA and APA, but a nonic or shaker works just fine. I have a set of weizen glasses that I will break out for wheat beers, as they handle the big foamy heads really well. All that said, if it's clean and watertight I will drink beer out of it.

I,too, have a set of Spiegelay glasses but find I don't use them often as they feel too light in my hand. That said, I will grab them if I have a 16 ounce canned IPA as their 19 punce size works well for a full pour with room for the head. I do agree that they seem to focus the head and aroma.
