No problem. I passed on it 3 times before finally saying "eff it" and buying one. Like I said it's sweet, but it comes through on it's promises of what it is supposed to taste like.
    Good luck!

Second new beer of the day: Anchor California Lager in a can, watching the Cubs' Jake Arieta no-hit the Dodgers. It's a lager. In a can. Cubs win. Life is good. Cheers!

Looks like root beer when poured dark brown with no head. It does make that fizzy sound like a soda.
    Smells like root beer.
Tastes like very sweet root beer.
Mouthfeel is thin and sticky like soda but with no carbonation.
Overall it is what it says it is a beer that looks smells and tastes like root beer. Just not what i want in a beer or root beer for that matter.

Green Trail IPA by Ithaca Beer Co. (Don't be fooled by the Butters modification :grinning:)

Appearance-looks like a relatively light IPA with a bit of chill haze
Aroma-Smells pretty malty with some hop presence. I may have waited a bit too long to get to this one but nothing off-putting
Taste-malt forward, again, might be my fault for not drinking it right away hop presence isn't completely diminished but I have a feeling it's much hoppier when fresh. Carbonation is light but enough to make it a refreshing beer
Overall-happy to have tried this but I have a feeling it is much better when fresh so perhaps I'll try it again one day!

    Hey what's going on!?!

Guess what!?!? It's still SUNDAY!!! as I type this out. Been a real busy day for me of fun and stuff.

I was up in Philly with my wife as we checked out a few things. First stop since it closes early, we hit a Farmer's market and went bread crazy. God dam the bread in Philly is so frigin good, can't get bread like that where I live.. I mean I have people who make decent good bread but just like... no not even on the same level.

I grabbed about 2 baguettes from Wild Flour and also some other loafs including a Yards Porter Pumperknickel. Bought the last one too ha ha! Also grabbed Jersey corn and some cheeses and some chicken. Dam good stuff. We put all this bread in our trunk, that when we opened and closed that thing it smelled like a dang bakery in there!

THen made it out to the Impressionist exhibit at the Museum of Art. Fantastic stuff.. then it was time to hit the road and made it to Tired Hands for a simple dinner. Also had some new brews from them, a Biere de Garde called Plumage, and also the Kuro Lime Leaf Lager. Both great, I actually had to grab a growler of the Kuro since it was so tasty so I'll be reviewing it again hopefully tomorrow! Thought about reviewing them then and there, but I was too much in the moment.

Also speaking of being in the moment, getting up close to personal review 3000 soon, and boy do I need to make a dent in my stash these days. I probably would have had more than that reviews but kept putting it off so at least I got my reviewing started...

Still I got some goodies for take home while up there, so what ELSE is new for our hero today?

    -------------------------------------
Poured from a growler, chilled well and opened less than 3 hours from being tapped into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Bright brassy, very clear and nearly straw colored. Lemon bright yellow body, almost lager adjunct looking, but with a nice amount of pin head carbonation rising slowly in clumps and chunks through the middle. Head is very little retention and makes barely a finger of white bleach presence. Settles to a soapy bubbled collar rather shortly.

Excellent hop aroma. Citrus but with candy like oils, and perfume aromas. Orange and mint, lemon and passion fruit like qualities, tropical and juicy to go along with it. Smells almost like those powdered lemon candy drops with perhaps a touch of tropical mango added in with them as well that starts to take over. Fantastic aroma.

Palate comes with a big impressive controlled hop flavor. Juicy front, almost bursting on first sip. Flavors of mango and tropical notes take off but with a very candy sweetness follows as well. Juicy finish takes it from there as well, but leaves just a little bit of lacking malt oomph to carry and make it take off. fruity finish with very little bitterness, but an almost sucrose like Belgian character that comes off like a bit of bubbled champagne Chardonnay like grape quality but far sweeter. Weird oily finish, and aroma seems to bring out a weird dominant candy like smell that takes over.

This is really impressive, but it's also just a bit far too sweet strangely for my tastes. If that was dialed down and given just a little more body this has the making of something really impressive.

cheers NBSers!!!... broke one out of the crawlspace collection for this fine evening thx to @TurkeyFeathers, very sweet but I'm in a zone after a stout, whiskey and a sour tonight, not as much sugar as EMJ so that a plus but still on a different level, crazy amount of sweetness, loved candy as a kid but in my older years go more towards the salty and sour, after these three Evil Twin stouts as for my palate think Soft Dookie still has it dialed in, much better than Souther Tier Chokolat and Rogue Double Chocolate stout though, there is a complexity to the sweetness here, funny how subjective a thing is as far as taste and attitude and emotion at the time, glad I didn't start with it this evening, fun beer nonetheless

Well, I'm working, but NBS keeps calling me back.
Another gem from @SammyJaxxxx 's box o' Jersey.
This one is really interesting. (Not just diplo-speak).
    Forgotten Boardwalk's Funnel Cake

Starts off with a slightly hazy straw-to-apple juice colored liquid capped by 2 fingers of fluffy tightly packed foam that quickly retreats to a half finger. Initial smell is barely lactic and sweet with a hint of lemon. But when the foam dissipates you get a gentle vanilla aroma that comes through. It's quite subtle and inviting. And with me, vanilla can go right or very wrong. So far, it seems right. Taste is a gentle melange of vanilla, lactic sweetness, a very gentle lemon bar tease with a creamy mouthfeel. Quite good. Finishes slightly dry. They got exactly what they were shooting for.

    Good Night All

So, so late to the party but it's been a wild, busy day.

Finally got to sit down and drink this Imperial Stout from Brazil, Guanabara. Made by Cervejaria Colorado.

600 mL bottle poured into an oversized tulip.

A bit of a fizzy dark khaki-colored head that never develops more than about an 1/8th inch thick. It remains a lacy film and surging carbonation continues to feed the thin head, visible through the pitch-black liquid. On the pour it showed much more of a dark brown color though. 4

Smells like dark fruit first and foremost, plums and figs like a Belgian. Brown sugar and caramel sweetness show some oomph. Blind I'd think this a floral, fruity Belgian. It smells great, but not particularly like a stout. 4

Aaaaand it tastes like a Belgian. Like a Belgian Dark really, plenty malty and chocolatey but highly fruity and floral and sweet too. Caramel flavors take on an old ale sort of quality, giving off a grape sucker taste. The finish lingers like maple syrup. 4

The body is a bit thin where I am looking for thicker and viscous, but it sure drinks well. Easy-drinking for a 10 percenter. Plenty of sweet stickiness though and a light floral feel. The finish is lovely with a dry, oaken sweetness like after a bite of pancakes with maple syrup. 4

Perhaps thin and not quite your expected imperial stout but this a tasty beer with rich, varied flavors.

Appearance-has a light golden/amber color with less than a finger of head
Aroma-strong jalapeno pepper with a side of pilsner malts
Taste-I did get some pilsner flavor with this one but jalapeno is the shining note throughout with both seed and skin aspects
Overall-I like spicy food and I definitely enjoyed this beer. The jalapeno flavors were spot on, which was what I was looking for more than anything else. I would definitely drink it again for a spice craving.
