Extras Question

I'm still a newbie <10 trades, but I've always included extras, and only once did I not receive an extra, which is cool, because I got what I traded for, nothing above and beyond expected or required

 

Always extras, always. This isn't a business transaction people, its supposed to be fun

 

I always throw in extras. depending on how big of a trade, I may throw in more sometimes vs others. I have also always gotten extras in return.

 

I always include extras unless a trading partner has explicitly asked me not to include extras, and then, it's more out of respecting that person's wishes than anything else. Sometimes, it's hard to resist, especially when I'm really happy with the trade and just want to throw something in as a "thank you" or to share a local beer that I love.

Sometimes I'll casually mention that I'm going to toss in extras, other times I won't. Either way, I send extras because I enjoy doing it--it's fun. It's certainly not out of the expectation for reciprocation. The second it's expected is the second that it stops being fun.

 

In 300+ shipments, I bet I've shipped out fewer than 5x boxes without extras... and those were only because the box/styro was packed with agreed upon bottles.... I will however let them know that 12 bottles fill a 12 bottle styro so don't expect extras.

In that same amount of time, I bet I've received fewer than 10x boxes without extras.

That said, Golden rule should prevail.... Treat others the way you want/expect to be treated and hopefully karma comes full circle to you.

Also, extras are a great way to get your local unheard of gems into other BA hands.... One of my favorite BA RIS of all time is a CAN made here in Boise. I send them out pretty regularly... Never heard any complaints.

 

Nothing to contribute here that hasn't already been said, but I love the sentiment that "winning the trade" is about who sends cooler extras, rather than being about maxing out the ratios on a silent auction.

 

I always send extras, but I try not expect anything. I've had a few come through with no extras, but the vast majority have included at least one. Personally I check out the other person's wants and send something from that along with something local that they likely haven't tried.
