Most incidents I'm aware of took place within 24 hours. That doesn't mean much though. I'd recommend popping the caps to relieve pressure.

It could be the fruit in the beer? We have kegs of beer brewed with fruit at work that say right on the keg label DO NOT FILL GROWLERS WITH THIS BEER.

Not the fruit. This happened with a wide range of beers. It's definitely the growler.

first, i kinda really wanna see a pic (latest hauls thread maybe) of those 18 growlers...my god...
Second, yeah, was gonna head over at lunch to pickup 2 growlers for the weekend...wouldnt be a huge loss, just some time, little cash, but i have small kids and wouldnt want them exploding all over the place...hhm...only saving grace might be that these are a few years old, so maybe they're from a better batch?

If this was a growler related issue then you would be hearing of these problems from multiple breweries, not just Tired Hands. I work in the branded glass industry and have moved about 50 pallets this year of the exact same 1L EZ Cap growler that they use. Out of those 50 pallets I haven't had a single breakage/explosion issue. You have to assume it's a TH issue and not a growler issue.

It seems like it's all happening to growlers that were purchased after the Fermentaria opened. All my growlers are older and were purchased at the café, buying 3 or more growlers a week I would think I would have seen at least one explosion if it was just a tired hands beer issue.

I agree, but if you've ever had a Tired Hands beer from a growler, its very, very hard to believe that they're over pressurized to the point of exploding. I have literally never even heard one hiss or pop when I open it.

It's likely due to all the yeast in their beers and the fact that they serve them so young. If they would condition them a week longer in a brite tank and allow the yeast to finish cleaning up any sugars and drop out, this prob. wouldn't happen. I'd be leery of shipping their growlers - once those beers warm up, the yeast will start working again.
