Crooked Rook porter from Mankato is quite good. It's smaller (5.6%) but tasty.

I don't think I'm quite alone, but probably in the minority that preferred non-Barrel Aged Darkness to Barrel Aged. Imperials have grown on me with time. I used to not enjoy them at all, but can definitely dig them now.

Are you asking what the best available in MN are or what the best brewed in MN are? The responses so far have been brewed in MN. If you also want available, then add Bell's expo, Founders IRS, Founders breakfast stout, Left Hand milk stout, Great Lakes Edmund fitz, deschutes obsidian stout, etc. etc.

Thanks for all the input. I'm in the grand rapids area so it's slim pickins overall unless I convert to mick golden (ain't gonna happen). I stopped by a liquor store in town yesterday and found a few of these mentioned. Grabbed a 4pk of cold press black and enjoyed it. I saw a bottle of double black as well and was wondering if that was from this year's release or last? I'll slowly start ticking off what is available here and will stock up on a trip to duluth at some point. Should have also mentioned that I'm big into coffee beers as well so any recommendations along those lines would also be appreciated.

Sorry for the double posts. I was wondering what the darkness distribution is like? The plan for now is to make it down for DD but if things fall thru I'm wondering the odds on finding some. I'm guessing it's doubtful that I'll see any in the rapids area but was wondering if any makes it out of the metro area at all. I'm also assuming that there aren't many bottles that get distributed?

You asked about some of the top limited releases, I hope you picked up that Double Black. I thought it was pretty solid, it disappeared quickly in the Twin Cities. It would be from the last release, which was some time late last year I believe.

I can't comment on the distribution of Darkness outside of the Twin Cities, but there were a lot of bottles last year. In fact, I believe more made it to distro in the Twin Cities than were sold at Darkness Day.

I don't know if it is true, but a shop owner I was talking to this past week said Iowa and Wisconsin will not get Darkness this year.

I am pretty sure it gets to Duluth and hangs around for awhile. You might find Darkness in Superior stores this year as well.
