    Hey there Midwest BA's,

I'm going to be out in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for two weeks, and I plan on hitting as many breweries as I can. My question to you is what local breweries are a must while I'm in the area? I know that the big ones like Surly and Summit are a must, but what are the lesser known/new breweries that I should stop by? Also, I'm going to be cabbing around, so any breweries within walking distance of each other would be the most ideal. Thanks for the help.

    Cheers

I can't really speak to the caveat about walking from place to place, but these are the taprooms that I would recommend to anyone visiting:

    - Surly
    - Dangerous Man
    - Town Hall
    - Fair State
    - Indeed
    - Fulton
    - Sisyphus
    - Steel Toe
    - North Gate

Two breweries that are definitely in walking distance of one another (and decent) are Bauhaus and 612 -- Bauhaus has an amazing space, and 612 continues to improve their selection... also a cool space.

There are over 80 breweries now in Minnesota, and with that there are some duds. You could easily fill two weeks' time with good to great beer drinking, so make sure you don't waste any time with the few bad eggs.

Depending on what you define as walking, Dangerous Man, Indeed and Bauhaus and Fair State are all walking distance from one another. There are also pub crawl tours on buses that hit some of the Minneapolis breweries that may be worth checking out.

My top choices beyond the two you listed would be Dangerous Man, Indeed, Town Hall, Fair State and Steel Toe.

Save some cab fare by taking the #30 bus or the light rail green line. Both will take you within walking distance of several breweries.

This is very good advice. As for specific breweries, just wait about 48 hours & every brewpub in the Twin Cities will have been mentioned, so you'll probably get no help there!

My personal recommendation would be to go to NE Minneapolis. You can hit Indeed (great place & great beer), Dangerous Man (which many people seem to dig), & Fair State (only been once but their taproom stuff was excellent). Then you only have a quick cab ride to Town Hall (a must visit IMHO) with Republic right across the street, a bar that always has a ton of local breweries on tap. Steel Toe is also very good, but is a ways out into the suburbs & not cab-friendly.

And of course, you can't miss Surly.

Also, check out this thread with the map if you haven't already.

Do yourself a favor and skip 612.

I agree, you can get to 12+ from the light-rail alone. Also, there are green bikes that you can "rent" all around Minneapolis and St Paul. The 1st 30 minutes are free too. www.niceridemn.org

I've biked to many breweries from downtown. I believe if you want to, there are about 8 within a 3 miles radius starting around Bau Haus/ 612.
I especially like Dangerous Man, Indeed & Sociable Cider Werks.
If you are downtown Minneapolis, you can hit Sysiphus, Fulton, Dayblock and Town Hall.

There are a few websites that have all the breweries mapped out. You should be able to figure out how you can get from 1 to another.

I could tell you what ones to skip, but that would be mean. Plus it's just my opinion!

    Also, UberX is insanely cheap.

Start in Northeast. You can walk between Dangerous Man, Indeed, Bauhaus, Sociable Cider, and Fair State. Then rent a bike and swing over to Northgate. From there you can walk to Insight, then catch a cab and finish at Surly. Or keep going (if your liver is in good shape) to Town House, then walk to Dayblock, then rent another bike to Fulton!

(This would be a killer brew crawl)

Nice list but Fair State is a least 2 miles away from Dangerous Man

The OP says that he will be in town for two weeks, and those are two of the most talked-about new(er) Minneapolis breweries, so he can probably 'crawl' the two miles between them in that time? (Yes I'm foolin' around. )

P.S. @Brewtull, I there's a charity event in a two weeks at which -both- of those northeast breweries will be in attendance.

Doubtful you'll be in town at that time, but it's worth a try!

At which point you can then finish at the Freehouse!

It'll give him some time to sober up / stretch his legs. 2 miles really isn't bad.

In the interest of avoiding confusion for the OP, I wanted to clear something up real quick.

Minnesotans are all familiar with Town Hall. In fact, I would wager most of the members of this site, Minnesotans or otherwise, are familiar with Town Hall. However, on the off chance the OP is not familiar with Town Hall, I wanted to point out that you suggested to (at a heightened state of inebriation no less) go to Town House, which is a well known gay bar in St. Paul. Quite a different experience than the Seven Corners brew pub that you meant to write.

Just wanted to clear that up.

They used to do 3-for-1 drinks, however. So depending on if they still do that and how drunk of an evening a person is looking for, not a bad spot :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. So far I've been to Surly, Summit, Dangerous Man, Fair State, and Insight. I'm hoping to make it to North Gate and maybe Indeed tonight. Has anyone had anything from Bang? Also, I'm thinking about renting a car and going to Toppoling Goliath. Is it worth it? Thanks for the help.
    Cheers
