Even though I help out at a local brewery, I am having withdrawals from home brewing. I gave my old all-grain system away to a friend, and I'm in the process of stepping it up with better equipment. (going from igloo to modified keg with false bottom and electric pumps, fly sparge, chiller plate, electric boiler... you know)

Have you ever been in a situation where you had to give up home-brewing for a while? Explain...
And cheer! I'm drinking one of my old red ales right now.

i started working nights 3 years ago. i didnt really have time for it and gave all my eqipment to a friend. my friend was good enough to replace all the equipment for me with a deal he got off of craigslist. i wasnt going to ask for it back, im native american so i wont be no effin indian giver haha. i just racked my first all grain batch in 3 years to the secondary. its good to have a hobby that sustains my habit.

I recently took a nearly half year break after a minor surgery which prevented me from being able/alowed to lift anything heavy for awhile followed by a cross country move for work. It was brutal, and I probably thought about brewing 10x/day.

No. If I had to move I'd find a place to accommodate my brewing obsession. Divorce the wife, sell the kids, do whatever it takes.

@Cadmando18 you never explained why you gave it up.

I didn't give it up. I've not been brewing because I'm setting up a bigger all-grain brewing area in my shop. And since I've been busy working at the brewery... well it seems almost like that's my substitute for home brewing right now. Once I get my nicer, larger all-grain set up going at my place I'll be back into it.

I haven't exactly given it up since starting, but I've definitely gone through low periods (one brew per 3-4 months). Starting a family will kinda do that I guess... The result is that I have enough ideas/recipes to put into production to last me for the next 5 years or so

Last year I moved away from my college town and stuffed my car with everything I could, but I had to make a decision between bringing the 2 cases of recently brewed or my brewing equipment. I decided since I was moving onto my mom's couch that I should just bring the beer (I sold my equipment to the luckiest craigslist shopper ever for $20), and wait until my next place to get new stuff. So that just happened, I've been in this new place around 6 weeks and I'm bottling tomorrow! yay.

I did a few 1 gallon batches at my friend's place but mostly this year I haven't been brewing. I'm really glad to be getting back into it.
