Finally got a nice clear cool autumn like day around here so decided to crack open a stout for NBS today. This one comes my way thanks to @FriedSlug - Olde Hickory's Imperial Stout.

Lots of roasted malts and milk chocolate with a touch of coffee. The honey adds a subtle sweetness that helps balance things out and contributes to the body. Very nice stout, and I look forward to trying more from these guys in the future!

And now, a shameless plug for my beer blog:

Do you love reading about beer, without all the snarky back-and-forth and trolling that sometimes occurs on BA? Do you want to know about other beer blogs? Do you want to help legitimize my need for showcasing my beer knowledge and writing capability? Then look no further. My blog, John M. Shoemaker's Beer Reviews possesses a small but loyal following, some of whom post regularly on NBS. I also include pieces of history, helpful resources, and the occasional news item in the wold of beer.

Subscribe now, and at no cost, you'll have my thanks and appreciation. I'll even waive the shipping & handling fee.

This ad was brought to you by a brazen beer lover. We now return you to your regularly scheduled NBS.

Thank- You . although I could never describe that beer in the detail and elegance with which you did. That is exactly how I felt about that one. You were able to get so many more critical details. You enlightned me to things i wouldnt have noticed. ( the water part was a new one also) TY

Finally had a chance to visit Tilted Barn in Exeter, RI and I have to say it was worth the trip. This beer is called "First Harvest Pale Ale" and I think it's very comparable to the best northern VT pale ales/IPAs. Brewed with Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra hops - a nice piney aroma filled the room when I cracked open the bottle. Very well balanced - doesn't hit you over the head with bitterness and highly drinkable at 7% abv. Later today, I plan on trying their oatmeal stout "The Raffi".

    Good stuff!

another offering for new beer sunday, poured into my 7 oz. classic Budweiser glass!
I detect notes of pumpkin rind at first , then sour notes do a louden swain takedown!, overwhelming sour that the barrel had plenty to do with.red wine notes dominate.
where I detect pumpkin is on the roof of my mouth as the beer enters. interesting enough.
I was looking for a tad sweet bite from bourbon and pumpkin, but great sour ! get this! enjoy
one more on deck way later!

Well I've finished all my Sunday obligations for the day was helping in a short charity bike ride this morning which was much dampened by the weather here but that is something we cant control.
My new beer for this Sunday comes from Unita Brewing and keeping to a fall theme it is there Oak Jacked Pumpkin. Pumpkin aged in oak barrels.

This beer poured a dark brownish orange when poured slowly into my favorite glass. A dark in color but a clear beer with no cloudiness.
The nose brings hints of pumpkin but not carrying a lot of spice overtones like some pumpkin beers. The oak barrel aging add the certain woody overtone.
The taste is sharp perhaps a little strong on the alcohol side but that is somewhat masked by the very nice oaky taste from the barrel aging. I feel that the pumpkin flavor is a little lost to both the alcohol and the oak aging.
The mouth feel is smooth even with the little alcohol burn at the end.
This a good aged pumpkin beer a little light on the spices in my opinion but the barrel aging helps make up that lack. There is a little alcohol burn at first but did seem to mellow out as the beer warmed a little in my glass.
This seemed like a good choice to start this damp Sunday afternoon but I'll probably be back once more as I also have one more beer for today and some chicken going in the new smoker out back.

Looks like my Oak Jacked Pumpkin would be in the upper 30's range then from that chart.
I like the chart works very well!

Cadillac Mountain Stout from Bar Harbor Brewing. The 1 pint 6 OC bottled opened with a loud swosh and a gusher of foam billowed out and it kept on coming out. I filled a whole pint glass with foam (a very nice brown color) but it still foamed a bit. Let things sit for while. Tried again this time is to a large Tulip still 90% foam but it settled down and I got a mouthful Stout .3rd try, still to much head but enough beer to drink. A pretty nice Stout nice roasted malt in the aroma and taste nice mouth feel and a dry finish. At last a nice pour with a proper head. A good Stout but not one I would not buy it again even if had poured the right way.

My favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon- sitting down with a NEW beer and watching football!
I picked this one up last night.

Really nice, really sour. One of the more complex sours I've had recently. Nice balance of notes from the hops (though at 100IBU there's not much bitterness, just sour), the brett funk, the mouthwatering acidity, and a nice feel from the continual bubbles. Sessionable, too at 4.1. A bit pricey so it would be tough on the wallet to session, but very enjoyable and very refreshing.
    Cheers!

    The Crisp

Not a style I return to often, this presented a little more like an ale than I expected. Flavors remind of dry cracker and biscuit, with herbal citric bitterness. Light feel with good carbonation. Feels like a lager, but the hoppiness leans into IPA territory. Nice and clean-tasting, fresh and - yes - crisp

Hi all! Looks like everyone is enjoying 1st Sunday football and other activities!

It was beautiful and in the 60s this morning , so I went around and opened all the windows. Cleaned the area rugs/dust/bona the hard surfaces... Then it started raining. I close up and bam back to sun. It looks like it is going to rain again now. I don't think I am opening up again for a few hours...see how it goes. I was hoping to spend some quality time on the tractor. Don't think that's happening today....so I am watching Bears versus Green Bay.

Just saw a Miller Lite commercial touting they were a pilsner. Is adjunct and pilsner a compatible notion? Meh.

Technically I had the first one at 12:26 a.m. and now again. That is still NBS right? :grinning:

Slyfox Oktoberfest is definitely appropriate to festbier style with light-medium body, light floral, herbal nose and clean slightly bitter finish. I highly recommend a try if you can. Very nice representation.

    Happy NBS all!
