At the risk of tainting results, I will not give my opinion here, but my girlfriend and I were debating about whether or not I am a "beer snob." We then discussed our definitions of what it means to be a "_____ dork" vs. a "_____ snob."

What do you think? Are they different, and if so, what are the differences? Are you one? Both?

Being a word dork, I have to point out the redundancy of "a 1000 times."

But clearly, as evidenced by the creation of this thread, I do not work for the Department of Redundancy Department.

BUT, I do have to mention that that thread brings in a lot of discussion in regards to "nerd" vs. "geek," which, although a worthwhile conversation, kind of dilutes the issue for me. I was just looking moreso for a discussion about being INTO something vs. espousing your views on others, which is the crucial part to me.

I fight the urge to have those debates with my wife and just deal a hand of gin.

Dork will educate his friend or someone...In this case about why they are drinking craft beer and not a macro beer and try to have their friend try some good brews. A Snob may just say "that beer sucks" when someone is drinking a bud, miller, etc.. Snob may also refuse to drink macro beers when they are offered. Dorks try to convert the person to the Dark Side IMO.

I am certainly a beer snob. I want good beer and I know what that that is. Am I a dork? Well, at the ripe age of thirteen my son invoked for me a Dorkdom over which I shall surely preside the rest of my days. Macro brewers will call you a snob if you say to them you made this beer cheaply with corn syrup instead of malt. They will call you a dork if you can quote styles. Hmmmm I want a tiara.

Your just very frugal that your money is spent on good beer. That is not a snob.

    I reject labels period.
If I am buying the beer, who cares?. My cash....

The key test to being a beer snob or not is the answer to this question.

"Do you look down on others and think they are inferior to you because of what they drink and how they drink it?"

    If "Yes," then Snob.
    If "No," then not Snob.

The beer snob will not drink any brewery's flagship brew unless it's Westie XII, nor will they bother with any brewery's year round releases unless they're oak aged sours. The beer dork knows that sours taste like vinegar and prefers the year round releases.

Probably a dork, but I could see how that could come off to others as snobbery. Either way, dork or snob, it doesn't sound fetching to be in either category. Try going for cool guy who enjoys a good beer or something to that effect. Cheers

I'm not sure why one would want to be called either of these things. At least "_____ geek" isn't on your list.

That sounds like the sort of debate a dork would have.

Indeed, the snob would have a debate about just how distressing the plebs are.

If you pronounce it bee-YAH, with your nose in the air, then you are a snob. If you refuse to call an ale a beer, then you are a dork.

Interesting scenario, there should be a big Brawl like that of The Outsiders. Beer Socials vs. Beer Greasers.
