It is an IPA. 6.5ABV and 65 IBU. But Dale's Pale Ale rhymes unlike Dale's IPA.

People like think there are clear rigid distinctions between styles when there's really not. I'm convinced brewers don't care about what it's called nearly as much as the public does.

I haven't had a Dale's in a while. I think you've talked me into buying a sixer tomorrow. I'm sure the good people at Oscar Blues appreciate your work on their behalf.

It is what it is. Period. And what it is, is whatever the brewery wants to call it. That's just the way it is, and the way things sometimes work. I can deal with it as long as we are all in agreement that it's a beer.

Unfortunately, that. After all, Stone was able to get away with calling a DIPA with some coffee and chocolate poured in it a "stout" with Master Of Disguise.

That being said, I still reserve the right to call bovine excrement on any brewery that releases a light-colored 100 IBU hopfest as "Big Ox Doppelbock".

It's absolutely an IPA, or technically a DPA (Dale's take on an IPA).

Didn't we just go through this in the thread for their new IPA?

It's still a Pale Ale either way right? India Pale Ale or Pale Ale.

Can't we just agree to it being a great tasting beer and leave it at that?

Taste great no matter what I call it. I call it Vernor's Ginger Ale while I'm at work

This thread is giving me some major deja vu.

But since we're here, what about DPA doesn't fit into the Pale Ale category in the BJCP?

    IBU's? SRM? ABV? OG? FG?

I don't know about the OG and FG, but the only thing I can see is likely the IBUs?

ABV and SRM are in line in my opinion.

Malt forward? I mean, yes, you can actually detect malt flavors in this beer, unlike many of the newer IPAs out there, but malt forward? Is it just me?

yea I got a six pack once thinking PA yea, and I open 1 and pour into my trusty mug and I knew the second it hit my nose it was a west coast hop bomb.

The simple answer is brewers can name a beer anything and style is a funny thing MJ made up and others grabbed on to and defined it. Not always that well either.:grinning::grimacing:
