Looks like Sam Adams is jumping on the Grapefruit IPA train as well. Here is your first look at the label for Rebel Grapefruit IPA. This will be and ale brewed with "grapefruit peal and grapefruit juice added" and will clock in at 6.3%abv and 52ibu. Also, from the label, this appears like it will be packed in 12oz cans, which will be new for the "Rebel" lineup. No word on release date yet.

Will they keep it competitive by charging only $12.99/6 pack?

Seems like Sam has jumped on the entire IPA bandwagon with the Rebel series, especially since before its intro, Mr. Koch came out and said something to the effect of stating that IPAs are overhopped, overblown and generally not worth it. But like I've stated several times, once one brewery does something and it catches on, the rest usually follow, hence Sam Adams Grapefruit IPA. Next up is probably a blood orange something, then whatever else is hot at the moment.

Looks like the biggest 'craft' brewer is starting to use the same production and marketing style as the biggest 'macro' brewer.

I remember when Sam Adams was innovative.....now they just look like a craft parody brand.

    Sad days.

This has to be a result of Parisi being a brewer there.

any beer wit "grapefruit juice added" is awful. Craft Berr Parody Band for sure.

I'm down, I have a fear this will be more like a hoppy shandy though.

    Another Grapefruit IPA?

Don't care who makes it, I will find it and I will most certainly consume it.

There does seem to be a fine line between a true citrus infused IPA or a shandy. I am interested to see which side of the line it ends up on, hoping for the former.

At this point in time why would you think that Jim Koch would be conflicted?

    Cheers!

Who cares what Koch has said in the past about ipas? I'm glad to have more readily available, reasonably priced options to get my daily allowance of hops. I hope they make 100 different "hip" ipas and market/distribute the crap out them!

I think if they can get a good, fresh, cheap ipa distributed like boston lager, that's innovation!

I think Koch has adopted the "two can play that game" mindset. Not a huge Sam fan, but I'll gladly try it.
