The stable of Pizza Ports is worth a trip to SD in and of itself.

Tough call, they both have lots to offer and both have their pros and cons.

I think I'd still go with San Diego...

Come to Boston! Autumn is my favorite time of year around here. Plenty of great beer/food to try

I have not been to SD but I will shamelessly plug for Boston with more than a little bit of bias.

My Ex has family in Boston and I used to go each summer and I live in Phoenix and travel to SD 4-5 times a year. Without a doubt, Boston for food and SD for beer. If you're looking for a more relaxing time and convenience, I'd head west. Boston is great but IMO, things might be too spread out for what you're looking to do and I'm impatient. With that being said, I'd head east since you already did SF at five years. Boston is incredibly unique, has some amazing beer bars and there is just something special about that town. Hell, head up the Pru at night, enjoy some brews and soak in that view.

San Diego. Better beer, better beaches. Question answered.

Yea but standing in like for 2 hours isn't exactly the most romantic getaway

For October, I'd just do a fall foliage/beer trip starting in Boston but including Vermont, Maine etc. More unique than San Diego, which looks the same all year long, and for which October is the hottest month thanks to the Santa Ana winds. I'm biased, but I really love New England in October. It's picture postcard stuff, even in the city.

The beer scene is surely more compact within the city of San Diego. But driving around New England, outside of Boston, in October, is something people come hundred or thousands of miles to do...irrespective of beer. So it's not a negative in my mind. OP needs to choose sun, sand, and urban breweries, or a New England fall brew tour.

Coming from a San Diegan, either. Both have great beer and food. Boston has a lot of history which is cool if you're into that sort of thing. San Diego has beautiful beaches and great weather no matter what.

I love both Boston and San Diego. If you are not familiar with Boston, the sheer historical aspect will be amazing. There is a greater variety of beer in San Diego, but Boston is a deep piece of our history. One of the best things that I ever did was to visit the USS Constitution as it was being renovated. I had read about Old Ironsides as a boy, and there I was standing on the deck. This ship, launched in the late 1700s was named by George Washington! It was instrumental in many pieces of our formative history. I still get chills thinking about where that ship has been and it's right there in Boston. Boston is also fairly walkable, depending on where you stay. Boston is a friendly city.

It's not because I'm from San Diego, but I vote for San Diego. I haven't had the liberty of heading east to Boston (which I plan on doing in the near future). I'm a bit of bias on my part, only because SD has a lot of breweries, density wise, plus it's about 2-3 hours away from Noble Ale Works, The Bruery and such.

Either way, I'm sure whatever choice you pick, you'll make the best of it. Good luck!

Been to both for beer trips and I'd have to say definitely San Diego. While Boston has some good beer its not convenient to travel around to the spots since they are pretty far apart. San Diego they are much closer together so you can hit more. Also weather, and beaches, and literally everything else about SD, I've gone back a couple times now.

Just came back from Boston and it was absolutely fantastic. Stayed across the street from Fenway which is a really cool area. It has an odd small town feel to it despite being a major city. The beer and food were great, but in October, it might be more enjoyable to go to San Diego. Higher volume of breweries/great food, and the climate is hard to beat.

I live in Boston, I recently took a trip to San Diego. I was off the plane for 5 minutes, and I was already declaring my love for San Diego and wishing I never had to go back.

I like how no one on the Boston camp has said "Sam Adams is there!"

San Diego. I live in Boston, and there's absolutely a good beer scene here. There's just much more variety in San Diego and many, many more different breweries.
