Just heard a distributor telling a buyer that its coming soon and they are having a meeting about it. Anyone ever tried a nitro ipa?

Nitro has the same effect on IPA's that it has on every other style. It dumbs down(dulls) the flavors and creates an artificially smooth mouthfeel. If you're an IPA fan, why would you think that's a positve thing? Might make them more palatable for those who don't like the current variety, but what's the point?

At 40 IBU + being a nitro beer im thinking Guinness IPA will be more along the lines of a Nitro pub beer than a true IPA

I assume this will go the same way as the likes of Breo or Black lager.

I'd be willing to give it a try but given their black lager and American blonde I wouldn't have my hopes up.

Yes, a local brewpub used to add their IPA to nitro or straight cask-conditioned hand-pull. Both very different, both very drinkable.

"pub beer" is not a style of beer, nitro or otherwise. Just because Boddingtons calls their crappy product a "pub ale" for marketing purposes doesn't mean it's a real beer style.

Actually @Tut, it's in the BJCP 35 a. "Shite Beer" category, whereby a large chunk of cash is required to be thrown at marketers and distributors before it can be rated. And remember guys, do rate to style, where any flavour is marked down and a flaccid mouthfeel and lacklustre aroma are to be the highlights of the beer

In the mid-90s there was an 8-can mix pack of nitro Pale Ales and IPAs called the 'Great Beers of England', or some such thing. Before long it became apparent that they all had a certain sameness to them, definitely a common nitro character; and not only that but the nitro seemed to 'smooth' out any distinctiveness (a few of them could've been the same beer in a different can they were so similar). I bet if I get that new Guinness IPA it would 'ping' that particular memory receptor .

Epic Hopulent IPA tends to end up on nitro at a few places around here for some odd reason. I don't think it's the only one I've seen, but it is the one I recall seeing more than once. I'm not sure the point, as I have tried it and just remember feeling a bit baffled :astonished: as to what the benefit was, and have avoided all I have seen since.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't mind a nitro stout once in awhile, but a nitro IPA is kind of a head scratcher.

While I was in London, I tried a house ale that was pulled from a nitro line. He said it was an IPA, but it was so creamy it was hard to tell. It just reminded me of Wexford's, which I used to drink the shit out of, but it's missing a certain pop.

Yea kind of used it as a generalization of the bland nitro beers in cans. Ex Boddingtons or Old Speckled Hen nitro.

This was the first one that came to mind for me also. Had it on nitro at Dieu du Ciel and man was it awesome! Maybe the best beer I had on my trip to Montreal, besides the small sample of Peche Mortel I had.

The Guinness press release about the beer said it should be available this month. If I can find a sixer within a reasonable about of time after its release I'd be willing to pick one up and try it. Guinness even made a couple of videos for the beer. Here they are if anyone is interested:

I will try this, but like others here I find the Nitro dumbs it down and you lose complexity. I love 8th Wonder Rocket Fuel, but when I had it on nitro it just wasn't the same

I don't like IPAs on nitro at all. My first was Sculpin and it completely turned me off.
