Was wondering for a while. Just ate something covered in hot sauce, and also have been saving this Belgian dubbel amd didn't want to waste it after destroying my tongue with spices.

What do you fellow beer drinkers use to cleanse your palate when you are impatient whn drinking several styles in one night?

I would suggest bread or unsalted crackers and wash down with plenty of water.

I go for unsalted crackers or white bread without the crust ( i know way too pretentious but i find the crust can sometimes be buttery) and carbonated water to help scrub the residue away.
More often then not im bouncing around styles too often to care too too much about a fresh palate.

Redd's Apple Ale. Regular or Green Apple. They are both very astringent to me. Washes everything else right out. I love the taste as well.

I use the same method that was brought up by @SoleBriety and @smakawhat. Unsalted Crackers and a glass of water. Only problem with this is multiple trips to the Bathroom and usually unwanted stomach Bloat.

Reviewing the recommendations made here I'd say it depends on whether you want a palate cleanser or a palate changer.

If you want a palate cleanser that comes as close as possible to resetting the palate back to a relatively neutral state then go with the folks who've suggested unsalted crackers (or you can use unsalted pretzels) and water to help "scrub" out any fats and flavors from foods and/or beverages consumed earlier in the day. (Time definitely helps as well.)

If you want a palate changer then use whatevery you like that has flavors you won't find in the beers.

But in either event there isn't much you can do except use time to recover from a repeated hard walloping of the senses of taste and smell with strong flavors. Of all of our senses it is taste and smell that are the slowest to recover from being repeatedly hit hard with lots of strong input.

Furthermore, if you are having more than one different brand or style of beer in an evening, don't expect a 2nd or 3rd beer to taste the same way it would taste if you had had it first. Finally, palate cleansers and changers aren't 100% effective. Only time can do a complete reset back to neutral.

A day old, dry slice of bread should do the trick.

Everybody so far is on the money in my experience. The only thing I'd add is that I prefer seltzer water to tap, but I think that's s matter of tastes (even though we're talking about neutralizing them).

I agree that when tasting beer for review it's best to do that one first. Then also not to do too many because you do get drunker as well as hops affecting your palate. For palate cleansers I use water crackers.

I'd use that hot dog any day! Is that your specialty or a commercial option? Anyway, I always use small bits of a lightly toasted baguette and very small slivers of Havarti.
