I received my first box today. Stouts and bocks I received were great. Nice packaging and with the large quantity the shipping and handling at a flat rate was nice...............HOWEVER.......

I ordered 3 different IPAs. One bottled in June, I ordered in August and pushed off the shipment, seems reasonable. Didnt expect 10 day old IPAs. The two other ones, WERE 18 MONTHS OLD. I would not deal with this company and I'll be asking for a refund and cancellation of my future order. It would seem stouts are fine, but the fact they tried to pass off 18 month old IPAs make these people I will no longer deal with.

I dont know how to post pics in here very well. Id post a link to my twitter account, but dont want to violate any terms. Twitter handle is same as here if you'd like to see.

What IPAs did you order that were 18 months old? That's petty wild. I've not used Tavour yet, but my buddy does and he's wisely decided not to order any IPAs from there since shipments only go out once a month (unless one decides to push shipping forward) and this means an IPA can sit for a month before it reaches you.

I'd say the big issue with Tavour for me is I don't really give a shit about any of the beers they offer and don't like some of the markups.

I wouldn't ever order a hoppy beer online unless I knew it was fresh somehow anyway. But hard lesson learned. Sorry about that :slight_frown:.

Good to know. I have not ordered any IPA's from them yet but have ordered stouts, porters quads etc. My 2nd order is going to ship in a couple weeks. Personally I like Tavour as it gets me access to beers I normally would not have been able to purchase locally. Prices are marked up a little bit but nothing I have seen has been an outrageous mark up maybe 2-3 bucks per bottle at most. They did ship two wrong beers on my first order but quickly sent me the correct ones 2 day air and told me to keep the wrong bottles so service was very good.

I had the same thing happen ordering from Made In Oregon. All of the IPAs were malt bombs.

That stinks to hear. I have ordered a single box from Tavour and avoided IPAs because of concerns about freshness. I must admit I was pretty stoked to get Fremont Coffee Cinnamon B-Bomb, KDS, Cismontane Black's Dawn, Destihl Here Gose Nothin, Iron Fist Velvet Glove.

Do they make any claims regarding freshness of the IPAs? Contact them with your concern and I bet they'll make it right. So many bottle shops sell year + old IPAs. It's up to us as the consumer to do our diligence. I will order from the again when they have the bottles I'm looking for.

    Cheers.

I actually use Tavour as well and haven't had an issue with IPAs being ordered. Actually having a Hopworks IPX Simcoe and it tastes just fine to me. Maybe a onetime oversight but like @therackman mentioned I would contact and let them know, they have fixed any issue I've had in the past.

I would be concerned ordering IPA's in the summer months in particular.

Its great that you want beers shipped TO YOU and are curious about them. But. Using a distribution service inside of distribution network is an even bigger crapshoot than the ones breweries use, and rely on. It's also quasi aftermarket, so you really are at the mercy of the seller.
Personally, there's very little chance I'd use one of these services cos there's just too many layers involved where the beer can become suspect and be a misrepresentation of what the brewery intended for you to have.

I like bricks and mortar. My wife is a big time on-line shopper and half of her stuff goes back. That is simply wasted time.

I've contacted them through social media and direct email. We'll see what happens. And I get its a "crapshoot" and "buyer beware" but to a point. I'm not super fresh if its less than a month old I wont drink it guy. 18 months though is insane.

I have to sign up just to view their selection? It doesn't sound like a place I'd buy from anyway.

That doesn't sound like a Tavour order at all. Well, maybe the Destihl beer.

I had the same reaction when I went to their site. I even tried to back-door the site (enter through other than the home page) and while I could view some pages without signing up, I could not see the selection.

I find this just odd... like they don't think their selection is enough of a draw to get you to sign up.

Stay grounded in humanity and shop in stores. You'll get fresher beer, and you'll play an itsy bitsy part in keeping this world from going up its own digital arse

Seems reasonable, but OH has a stupid ABV cap. Was using this for access to somethings I'd never get (Woot stout / Black Cauldron). Figured I'd try some others since the shipping and handling is flat regardless of bottle count.
