I would say yes it has happened recently because of consistency issues, high prices, and over hyped beers...sorry

I'm not entirely sure what it means for an entire industry to jump the shark. I can certainly see elements of shark jumping but if X brewery is putting things out purely for novelties sake to retain interest what does that mean for say Sierra Nevada, Six Point, or the industry as a whole? If one brewer is heavily engaged in shark jumping does that mean the the industry has jumped the shark? Or does the entire industry have to engage in shark jumping? A majority (51%)? Furthermore shark jumping is using gimmicks to retain interest, I can see how this applies to hyped releases but it's less clear how this applies to something like consistency issues or pricing.

I had to look up what jumped the shark meant but no, I dont think they have yet. Yes there are a number of breweries opening up that probably shouldn't and a number of newer breweries that just aren't making quality product, but I think there are an equal number of breweries that should open and are making incredible beer. Seems like the bubble is still building because more breweries are opening and staying open than those that are closing. Am I ok with this? not for the breweries that shouldn't be open.

I went to a local brewery (7 barrel nano brewery) while on vacation last month, purchased a sampler and 2 of the 4 beers sampled had noticeable flaws. I brought the second one over to the guy pouring the beers and said, this isn't good, can I get a different beer, and he knew exactly which beer I was returning. Unfortunately he was just a sales guy so it wasn't his call, but why serve a beer if you know it sucks. That is just damaging future business. Pour it out, take your loss and try again.

    I can still get a high quality stout/ ipa/ octoberfest/ pils/ you name it for $9.99/ 6pk

... I feel this thread was created for the sake of creating a thread. Any industry that experiences a massive boom will have its ludicrous extremities. It's to be expected.

Didn't we agree to ban "jumped the shark" on here?

And no I don't think it has - not saying craft beer isn't without its flaws/issues, but let's not overreach here

If the question is whether craft beer's best years are behind us, I would say no way. Not by a long shot. There was a lot of excitement to being in a fledgling industry driven by people who were passionate about their product. Now the landscape has fundamentally changed, but there are still lots of people involved who are passionate and the depth and breadth of great product continues to expand virtually every day. Cynicism and snarkiness aside, I'm not sure how you could say that the best has past and it's all downhill from here.

I voted no because I definitely think the industry as a whole hasn't but there are some styles and breweries that I think have possibly jumped said ocean predator.

I would have to drink several craft beers before trying to jump over a shark.

    So, "maybe."

    Rare beers have.
"Rare" and "good" are mutually exclusive, contrary to popular belief.

The only craft bubbles I wanna hear about are the result of bottle conditioning or force carbing.
