Swore I was gonna stick to tried and true Oktoberfest this year. Then I saw so many I
haven't tried and I made a six pack of singles. This one first. It's only okay.

If you must still mow the lawn, the stores are selling their Christmas decorations et al up way too soon. We all know the season to celebrate is Octoberfest! Therefore I'm enjoying a Spaten Octoberfest Ur Marzen (sorry, no umlaut on my keyboard). Now that's a good beer. Not fancy, just tasty.

Continuing with one of the sours I picked up the other day, been looking forward to this. Joining a few of you with New Beer Thursday! Local store had it for about $12 so I couldn't resist. Really enjoyed La Folie earlier this year.

Nose is like a hoppy ipa with some funk on the backend. Lovely sourness right upfront. Getting a lot of tart citrus from the dry hopping. Grapefruit, lemons, maybe some starfruit? Don't know why but I'm tasting starfruit. But I like it!

    Cheers ladies and gentlemen!

We enjoyed it last spring when we were there - Lumberyard, that is!

Drank a Coffee Sessions: Four Barrel by Cellarmaker Brewing Co a bit earlier. So good I had to get a second one.

A: Dark, dark brown. Almost black but not quite. Light can be seen around the edges no problem. One finger of mocha colored head that dissipated quickly, not a ton of carbonation or lacing in general though. pretty much your standard appearance you'd expect for a porter.
S: Roasted coffee beans... Almost that smell that smacks you when you enter Starbucks, or any coffee shop, gorgeous coffee aroma. Dark chocolate, roasty malts, dark roast coffee. Hints of sweet malts in the background, but this is a dominantly coffee based beer.
T: Black coffee upfront, roasted beans and dark chocolate mix for a great coffee forward taste, small amounts of bittering hits in this salvo of flavor. This is followed by a bit of malty sweetness blended with roasted malts. Coffee lingers in the aftertaste with a mild sweetness.
M: Medium mouthfeel, not too heavy but plenty of body. Low carbonation, just enough to compliment the beer and fit into the carbonated beer paradigm. Lightly coats the mouth with every sip, yet you can drink continuously due to only being a 6% beer.
O: Holy crap, one of the best beers I've tried this year. If Cellarmaker was based on the East Coast they'd be getting so much more run for the amazing beers they make. Absolutely floored at how tasty and intricate they've made this without high abv, barrels or hopping. Get it while you can, this is worth seeking out.
