Nice to see Jacksonville,FL's best brewery Aardwolf get some love. Bronze in Belgian Style Pale Ale. One out of only 2 medals for the state of Florida.

Washington brewers did fairly well overall. A couple of them surprised me. Two Beers winning Gold for Amber/Red? Didn't see that coming. Shout-outs to a couple of Bellingham breweries: Chuckanut for killing, again, with their Kolsch & Bronze for Dunkel; and Wander Brewing for taking a Gold for their Wild Warehouse in the Barrel-Wood Aged beer category.

A couple old school WA brands, Ranier & Olympia, took Gold and Silver for American Cream Ale. Both are now owned by Pabst. This amuses me greatly.:grinning::stuck_out_tongue::slight_smile::confused::stuck_out_tongue::rolling_eyes::flushed::grimacing:

@Bitterbill , and yet, we see them here in Hamsterville with a certain amount of regularity. Especially during ski season.

I kind of do. I'm not going to look at this as seriously as I do great ratings, but I'm always interested in trying beers that did well because you know it's made well and will fit the style guidelines.

It was heavy enough that I got it. However, it still amazes me to this day that we have no sarcasm font.

I'm the opposite, the ratings here (or anywhere) are meaningless to me. Things like this, NABA, and WBC, which are blind, and neutrally judged carry a lot more weight for me.

Take these ratings with a grain of salt
And the best barrel aged stout in America is......
You guessed it.... Ctayt by AC Golden brewing company

I was surprised that Ohio only had 10 total considering Fat Head's had 5 (4 gold) of their own. Kind of cool that Hop Ju Ju has won Imperial IPA 2 of the last 3 years though. White Rajah taking bronze in the IPA category makes one of my favorite shelf beers taste even better:grinning:

I take it all with a grain of salt though because not every brewery partakes. It is still an accomplishment for sure, but for example, if you win a medal in the Imperial IPA category, but Heady isn't in the competition, it is kind of like winning the Super Bowl with the Patriots not being in the league all season.

How does one know what was entered? True that every brewery does not enter.

    One doesn't know, do one?

Only one beer got a medal in DE and I am very happy to see it go to Mispillion for their chocolate stout, got to try it at the brewery earlier this week and it definitely deserves at least a bronze medal.

I can see your point but competitions rate beers to how we'll they fit style guidelines and not overall enjoyment which is more important to me.

I'm not sure if the site shows a complete list of entries or not, but I recall reading that there were 336 in the American IPA category. Like I mentioned, still very impressive to be 3rd in that bunch for The Brew Kettle, but there are over 110 breweries in Ohio alone. I am sure that all but a handful make an IPA:slight_smile:

No they don't list all entries in every category. So you don't know if Heady was entered.

As I looked through the winners I realized that 95% of the winners will never be available in my area. Pretty meaningless to me

Would be interesting to see what beers were entered in each category. I did find some total numbers for last year on their site.
    • 1,309 breweries entered the competition, representing 50 states and Washington, D.C.
    • 5,507 beers were entered in the 2014 competition
