todays second comes after running my wife to get a new battery for her car. done, and now this

a pipeworks dipa weighs in at 9.5 abv
pours fresh orange with a rather large foam fro, reducing to minor layer
you can dig the large orange/grapefruit waft as you close in to sip
malty sweetness with that fruity hop taste. the honey is there right at the end
raspberry is in the smell, and right as you take a drink.
I am enjoying this, the raspberry isn't at all overwhelming and the touch of honey reminds me of hopslam

cheers! if you are in the Chicago area , grab one.

    My stalker is back today.

Miss Lilywhite Lilith aka Lily, is staying with us for 5 big nights!
Pics are from her last epic visit a mere four weeks ago.

This beer seems appropriate to celebrate this joyous doggie visit...

    From GABF 2015 winner Rhinegeist!
I love everything I've had so far from this great little Cincy brewery, except maybe Cougar, that Blonde ale, but 4% beers really aren't my thing.
Anyway, Saber Tooth Tiger IS MY THING!!

First: No man alive can resist this label! Is it primordial? If so, is it weird that my wife actually bought this beer for me? Does this mean women (her) know men (me) better than they (me) know themselves?

Of course not, but I digress.
Back to the Saber Tooth Tiger!

It's an American Double / Imperial IPA offering an inviting 8.5% ABV. It claims to be a prehistoric IPA that attacks with notes of Papaya, Mango, Peach and sinks it's teeth in with a clean bitter finish.

It does all that and I love it!

Have a great NBS everybody, I gotta go, because
it feels like I'm being watched...

Hi NBS/BA'rs, I guess since it's Sunday...and this is new to me, I'll share a bit.

Weather is mid 70's in Western PA, humidity is not in play. Great weather even if a little spotty clouds and overcast. House is open, Steelers game on. Life is good. Hope your day is going as well also!

As for the NB in NBS....It's Flying Dog Pearl Necklace. A stout brewed with, of all adjuncts you could think of, Oysters. Real, briny little sea creatures. I was intrigued enough to save this for an NBS, since I figured there could be much to say about it, good or bad!

A: flat pour, 1 mm collar. The opposite of lively. Opaque with coca-cola colored ruddy/ruby edges.

S: Coffee/Toffee and not much else. Faint notes of brine.

T: Coffee, Toffee...then...bam...briney under current. Like I just did an oyster shooter after quaffing too many Irish Carbombs.

M: Seems a little thin. Salinity present. Leaves a faint whiff of coffee on palate.

O: Thin mouthfeel detracts from the overall experience a bit, lack of nose showing nothing but coffee. It's interesting, but I probably won't revisit.

Sunday Cheers NBS, enjoy your day!

Well watching the carolina game cooking tons of food...Reading everyone's posts! Looking like a good Sunday!
Had to crack one of my two allagash golden brett's gonna hold on to the other for awhile.
Honestly am blown away by this beer it's fantastic everything I love in beer ...glad I did buy two!

Cork popped out with the smallest touch and poured immediately with tons of foam and smelled amazing
Smells of citrus maybe lemon peel or oranges with a nice amount of acidic funk and old basement (my favorite) lol
Taste is immediately a blast of Brett funk followed by that citrus goes down slightly tart less than expected from the smell...
Overall I love it can't wait to see what happens with some age!

Well, hello there, NBS people. Chores are over, the only game available is Jets/Eagles so I'm hanging out on the patio with the old TV sitting on the deck box and enjoying this new Fall weather. I found this Sierra Nevada bomber at my regular store this Friday. It's an IPA dated (gasp) 7/21/15 but I've had all the other of these Sierra Nevada series, so I had to try this one too. Has the unfortunate name of Newly Developed Hop IPA. Pours nicely into my DFH IPA glass. Orange color with a big, fluffy head on top. Smells faintly of citrus (the bottle says I should be getting notes of chocolate, vanilla, oak and orange). I don't get any of that from the nose, but maybe if I squint, I can kind of taste some oak (maybe wishful thinking). Otherwise, I really just get the usual somewhat mellow yet enjoyable hop goodness that I get from every Sierra Nevada IPA. The mouthfeel is the standout here. Very creamy and pleasing going down. A very good beer. I just don't get all they claim. A winner just the same. Overall I'd give it a straight up 4. Cheers!

Next up we have from O'Connor Brewing their Heavy Footer DIPA

Looks real nice with a translucent orange appearance with a nice foamy thick white head.

Nose is crisp with grapefruit, and a little alcohol.

Taste is also very nice. First up we have that sexy grapefruit laying the ground work for what transpires next - the dankness. Not quite as pungent as say a Drink By, but I am getting a little fresh rubber before a tiny bit of sweetness. Body is a little thin but it doesn't have a ton of cloying qualities, soI guess we're good.

    Overall this is pretty good.

Well back for my second post for this Sunday. I'm enjoy my day here doing some odd jobs starting the long preparation for the soon to be upon us winter. But I find since retirement I tend to notice different things such as the beautiful rose color the hydrangea has turned this fall. It seems much darker than last year.[IMG]
I also revisited my attempt at art today and am in the process of deciding how the next project will evolve. If you didn't see my first attempt at modern sculpture on WBAYDN I'll share a better picture.[IMG]
And now on to my second beer for today Stone's HiFi+LoFi Mixtape. Not really sure why I picked this beer up, hell yes I am it said Barrel aged on the label and I'm a sucker for anything that says barrel aged.
This beer poured a dark golden color into my tulip glass.
Not a lot of nose present upon pouring perhaps some malty overtones perhaps a little oak from the barrel aging.
The first taste to me is very bitter not unpleasantly so but the bitterness is what powers the taste of this blend. There are some oak overtones but not a lot of other flavor here.
The bitterness mellows as the beer warms a bit in my glass.
Perhaps if this beer was fresher as it was dated 5/7/15 or perhaps it needs more time to age.
All in all perhaps a confusing beer to me not sure where I really want it to go. Drinkable as is yes. Would I buy it again, that's a big question. Well to me a middle of the road beer from Stone.
I'm sitting here enjoying the wonderful smells coming from the smoker right now with a trinity of meats cooking hopefully I'll be back with some finished pictures to share later this wonderful afternoon.

Allagash Farm To Face - Allagash Brewing Company

Allagash Brewing Company - Farm To Face ale brewed with peaches
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    -----------------------------------------------------

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Deep apricot orange body, to the light glows with a lemon yellow orb like consistency. A middle column of carbonation which is nice, but with super micro fine size bubbles whisping up to the top. Head needs a push, but manages about two fingers. Creamy. Off white and even a bit yellow vanilla in colour. Manages a really nice fine collar while drinking.

Nice aroma. A good moderate and basic funk quality with lighter acid like tones. Mild sensing peach but also a real nice complimenting creamy almost vanilla quality going with it. Peaches and cream? Could be.. Fruited vinegar comes out a bit as well.

Playful tartness on the palate, but also light and a bit wet. Crispy fruit qualities on first sip, hints of peach and a bit of apricot. Stone fruit quality is real big on this, with lots of earthy tones. Great aromatic cream qualities not unlike hinted on the nose. Carbonation is slightly playful, but also distracting, cuts a little to fine through the body and almost into a distracting club soda quality. Earthy minerals seem to peak out after some time as well. Really nice finish of fruited peach and vinegar like qualities.

Overall, really nice, with some minor drawbacks, and just not quite getting into stratosphere territory for me.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25 | BA: final score 4.24

2nd NBS entry of the day is an entry in a style I normally don't gravitate to. This is a stout from Lawson's, Fayston Maple Imperial Stout.

    Fayston Maple Imperial Stout

    Lawson's Finest Liquids
American Double / Imperial Stout / 10.10% ABV

    4.26/5 rDev +3.9% | Avg: 4.1
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.25

L- Aggressive pour leads to a 3/4 inch thick mocha head. Dark thick body, no light getting through.
S-light coffee, chocolate, a bit of dark fruit. No Maple.
T- light coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Incredible balance with only light bitterness. Maple is a almost completely hidden by the chocolate and coffee. Alcohol is almost completely hidden.
F- Rich, creamy, smooth, and lingering. The way a stout should be. Carbonation is very light.
O- I am not a big stout fan, but this is very tasty and drinkable. Only negative thing is the maple is very light.

I have a second one of these which I'll cellar for a while. If you are not a stout fan, but want to try one this is one that you may like. The hard part will be finding it.

Hey everybody! A rare day of relaxation on a Sunday for me, so I'm happy to have the chance to post on NBS.

Feels like fall here in NJ. With Oktoberfest in full gear, I've been drinking my fair share of Märzen lately. But when I'm craving a beer early in the day it's usually a hefeweizen that I want. I didn't have any in the fridge but I did have this guy sitting in there. Today's new beer is Andechser Weissbier Dunkel from Klosterbrauerei Andechs in Germany.

I must start off by saying how much of a fan I am of Andechser Weissbier Hell. It is my favorite hefeweizen, beating out Weihenstephaner and Ayinger by a slight margin. Needless to say, expectations were high for the Dunkel.

Look: Deep reddish-brown color with a thick, creamy, off-white head that has great retention. Very cloudy after adding the yeast from the bottle. (4.00)

Smell: Strong banana aroma with some light clove and even a bit of vanilla. Caramel and bready malts. (3.75)

Taste: Plenty of fruit and spice. Banana, clove, wheat, caramel, and toasted malt. (3.75)

Feel: Medium-light bodied with a dry finish. Body was a little too thin and I would have like it to be creamier. Lots of carbonation gave a fizzy, effervescent feel to it on the tongue. (3.50)

Overall: All of the flavors you'd expect from a weissbier, but the thin texture hurts it a bit. The rich malt provides a bit of added complexity, but also holds it back from being refreshing and quenching. (3.75)

    Final score 3.74 / 5. Cheers, BA!
