I'm trading a friend for a hunahpu, which I've never had before. He has offered me either a 2010 or 2011 hunahpu. For those who have had both, is there one that is drinking better than the other? I'm excited either way, just wondering if there is much difference between the two. I'm considering they've both been aged properly.

The general consensus is that Hunahpu is better fresh. The chile, chocolate, and vanilla tends to fade with time.

I actually like the '11 the best by far (Including the '12 when fresh). I would go with the '11.

Just had a vertical of the 3 and the '11 was unanimously voted the best. We had the 11 and 12 next to each other a few months earlier and the 11 was preferred then as well. I still am baffled by this whole Hunahpu is best fresh thing.

I had an '11 a couple months back and it was awesome (I like that the chiles weren't overpowering). No frame of reference on the other years, but the base beer, Marshal Zhukov, is a great RIS anyway, so worse case you get a slightly more chocolatey, vanilla-y, peppery (Terrible choice of adjectives) Marshal Zhukov.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'm a little surprised by the 11' being better, so I'm glad I asked. I'll be drinking it sooner than later as well!

2011 has the most vanilla flavors right now if that's what you're into.

I really don't find aged Hunahpu to be significantly different than Zhukov. I prefer it as fresh as possible, the chili pepper flavor is much more noticable.

You can say the 2011 is the best vintage all you want, but the 2012 I had this past weekend is drinking quite well right now.
