Ahhh, my old buddy Dizzy Dean. I loved it when he and Pee Wee Resse were the TV announcers on the baseball game of the week. (That statement really dates me.)

That's an ad from my area. Both stations are still around, but neither broadcasting games anymore. Of course, gone are Dizzy, Falstaff and and their San Jose brewery. I think it's another original tan or salmon-colored Silicon Valley townhouse complex now. But Mothergoose03 apparently "...takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"

[IMG] This is from a 1949-50 San Francisco phone book I found at a rummage sale for $5. More to follow...this was just a test-I can download again!!

Regal Amber was also the brewery's name (until the 1950s, when they changed it to Regal Pale Brewing Co.) but, as can be seen in that Phone Book ad, their flagship beer was Regal Pale by the 1940s.

They later came out with Regal Select (by the 1950s, IRCC?).

That brand - which by the 1970s and owned by General Brewing Co., and was probably California's second most popular notorious "cheap beer" after the same company's Lucky Lager - is probably best remembered for the slogan "One of America's Two Great Beers", which often resulted in the next question, "Sooooo...what's the other one?"

[IMG] Another one from the same phone book as above. Sorry, l just realized how crappy this picture is. There are some full-page ads in here, too, on REAL yellow pages! l'll post those when l have access to a better camera.

[IMG] I just saw this while looking at a local history website...Santa Clara Lager Beer for sale at the Burton Ale House. This pic is from 1866!

A few years before that period - which would fall during Prohibition, when the term "Beer" could not be used for the then-legal "under 0.5% cereal beverage". From the Bessemer (Michigan) Herald and New Free Press, for example:

My favorite "Baby & Beer" ad, from the same Pre-Pro era, has a slightly different emphasis :

With two small kids, including one in her "terrible threes", l could use "a supply" right about now.

[IMG] This appears to have been cut off from something bigger, as there are scissor-like cuts on top, just above the 'u', which l just noticed after 10 years. It is in plastic now, but l plan on framing it...some day.

I collect a lot of vintage things, breweriana included. Here's a few ads I have framed in my man cave. I switch them out seasonally with appropriate themes. Time for the fall/winter ones to go up soon. Hope you enjoy.....

I have that Carling's cap! And what exactly going on in the Falstaff ad? Are they in a bathroom?! It even looks like a toilet behind the cooler to the far left!

As stated they're hanging in my man cave. That's a reflection of my bathroom wall and sink on the frame glass.

That doesn't sound as fun as a bathroom party.
