Not that it doesn't get enough love, but Ballast Point's Grunion is not as revered as Sculpin yet it's worlds better

Summit Sága IPA is one of my favorites but I seem to always pass it up when it is available for different IPAs. The next time I drink it, it does feel kind of superior to similar beers. I try to keep some in the fridge at all times just in case I feel like having one now that my work sells it.

Can't tell you or it won't be a sleeper anymore. It will become sought after and I won't be able to get it anymore

    Enjoy

I don't know how well distributed Korbinian from Weihenstephaner is, but it gets my vote

For me it was 2 hearted. One of the reasons is that when I saw it I was traveling and knew I could not get it at home. Broke down last Sep and got some. Loved it and it took less about 7 months before I could get it.

Phenominal beer imo. Love that take on the style.

Anchor IPA is one of my favorites, but it's very difficult to find here in central IA. Still haven't seen it in cans yet... Maybe next summer:slight_frown:

I think another I will add once I started ticking lagers is anything from Schlenkerla, and generally Rauchbiers as a whole. I would see the bottles every week, read about how good it was, and for some reason (maybe I was a little intimidated by the concept of beer that supposedly tastes like a ham rind, I don't know) just always "eh, later" and not get it.

Then Schlenkerla Urbock happened to my face and it's now one of my favorite styles.

As far as the term "sleeper" goes i'd have to say Left hand Milk stout or anchor steam porter. A true "sleeper" is something you believe in and other people either don't know about it or don't believe you.

Penn Pilsner by Pennsylvania brewing Company. Is it me or are there now lots of pils? Is it me or was that GABF list full of lagers to include the dunkel? Ooooooooh dear.

I had the same justification, until I bought a bottle of Avery tweak for double that price

Gonna throw a VT beer that maybe gets missed which is Otter Creek Overgrown. Really solid lowish ABV Pale Ale

Victory Prima Pils. It blew me away and became my favorite pilsner.

    Maria,

You may know this already but Penn Pilsner is actually a Vienna Lager:

“Our flagship brand! An amber Vienna-style lager beer that is smooth, mellow and full bodied, with delicate hop aroma. Uses two-row barley malt and caramel-roasted malt. Based on founder Tom Pastorius' favorite German bier.’

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/125/385/

As regards your question of “Is it me or are there now lots of pils?”, there are lots of Pilsners to choose from in my area but I don’t think the SEPA beer scene is representative of much of the US.

    Cheers!

You caught me Jack. I only had one but vienna did not occur to me. It was not dark enough or sweet enough. It seemed to me like a straight forward pilsener. I was talking about the list I read. GABF Lager this this pilsner that and lots of dunkels. Also in general I have seen more pilsners lately than ever. DC Brau Pils? Did you know Bell' s makes a lovely pils?

For all those who have had Celebrator make sure you try Weihenstephan Korbinian and Jack's Abby Saxonator they are both contenders if not maybe even better than Celebrator

That BA Blackbeerd sat on the shelves in Columbia for about a month, couldn't believe it. Glad I opened one early on so I could go back and get more. Great, great beer.

Just getting you ready for next weekend!
I have had a couple lagers from Bell's:
    • Lager of the Lake (American Pale Lager)
    • Quinannan Falls Lager (American Pale Lager)
I am a BIG fan of the Quinannan Falls Lager.

Is the Bell's Pils that you are referencing Schu's Lager: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/160492/ ?

I have not had the pleasure of drinking Schu's Lager. Can you share more of your impressions of this beer?

    Cheers!

    Jack

I believe they use a tiny bit of smoked malt in there and it adds so much to that beer. I went back and bought a few more bottles as well.
