Fortunately most of the people who go to these releases seem to be good folk who likely enjoy sharing their bounty. I doubt many people are drinking their whole allotment alone. Maybe I'm crazy but I think if 20 liquor stores got these bottles, it would attract the wrong kind of people (hoarders, excessive traders, and people in it for the money) and perhaps less people overall would get to try the beer. I could be wrong...

EDIT- for me, it's worth the money and effort because I get to share with likeminded beer lovers who couldn't make the release. And I know they in turn will hook me up with a pour of whatever delicious local treat they might have saved. It's what makes beer fun man!

100% agree, I love sharing all my beer bounties, but 200 people getting 6 beers each vs. 1200 bottles for the public aka 20 liquor stores each month getting 5 cases seems like it would spread the love around and get rid of the early line problem, which this was all about originally. Again just an idea not a fool proof solution. I don't care about the liquor store problems, thats not what this discussion was about, thats it's own topic.

As has been stated multiple times in this thread, getting people to Glenwood is one of the goals.

Tickets end the line problem, while still getting people to Glenwood and money is raised for charity. Win win win.

Great point hawkbill721! 200 people drive to Glenwood get the beer, no lines and money is for charity plus a ton of other people won't go! It is a win win win

I guess I don't understand your point. If you're upset with how Troy is running his business or think you have a better idea, go talk to Troy directly when you're in Glenwood enjoying a calm release rather than spouting off nonsense on the Internet. Personally I think Troy is killing it and completely support the way he's running his business and I don't think I'm in the minority.

What point! It's a discussion group shooting around ideas about beer! Every post i had was was about ideas not facts or my opinions. I never claimed to be correct. I now truly understand if you aren't one of the regular post people your ideas are stupid, but isn't that what a discussion forum is for? or 10 guys telling anyone with a post he's an idiot and his input is wrong. I agreed with most peoples post and let them know I did, i'll crawl back in my troll hole now, preach on know it alls!

Last post. What happens when every brewery decides for release parties they are going to charge $20 for donation just for the opportunity to buy their beer?

Then you, me, and everyone else can make the same decision for themselves that we get to make with Casey's releases. If donating $20 to charity for the convenience is worth it to you, do it. If that donation bothers you, don't go to the release.

    It's really that simple.

So....you're not going to talk to Troy about how upset you are that he's charging money? Ok.

These once a month, 3 hour drive releases aren't normal "beer releases". I consider them mini beercations, if you will. I've spent much more on a hotel room the night before many releases. He's doin the best he can to please everyone and this idea seems like it'll work. And if it doesn't I'm sure he will find an idea that will.

Also, while you may be in the minority, I know many people that agree with you and think $20 extra is absurd, and those guys aren't publicly griping about it. You're allowed to have an opinion and keep it to yourself or post it in a public forum. On the Facebook post Troy stated his reasoning behind the amount, so it is what it is. Again, $20 for convenience, more sleep and peace of mind is a deal to me, especially when most of the public releases are more than 6 bottles. Like @purplewindex said Troy will listen to everyone and make a good decision, so your opinions and ideas have value, whether we agree or not

Are you saying there should be a 1 bottle limit should they make it to shelves? How do you figure the 200 people are not part of the 'public'?

We all learned the answer to this when we were hung over in Econ 101 at the age of 19 after drinking a case of beer that cost less than the Casey ticket: Casey makes a great product and demand will not drop. De Garde just had an event in late August where you paid for the right to buy beer - demand did not drop. You said "every brewery" though? Demand drops for 99% of them.

Buddy, you are not dealing with normal folk here. Throw all reason and rational out the window. Disagree or offer another way to look at something and be smited. Check a couple of the threads here, you'll see. Look at the WTF thread then go read the gabf best beers thread. There are people that feel completely played by CS for the "fest" that not only are still considering going again next year(you are going stop acting like you aren't) but also are asking in another thread if the same people that played them have anymore $14 for 12oz beers they can go buy. Really?
While I don't quite understand it, I really want to find a way to make them my customers. They not only are willing to drive 3 hrs each way to purchase your product, but they are happy that you are making them donate $20 to the charity of your choosing(thanks for the tax write off on charity contributions) for the privilege to purchase your product. The $20 could go to the actual product cost but that would just be stupid now wouldn't it?

The guy saying "if liquor stores got these bottles it would attract the wrong kind of people"? Wow, that is gold Jerry, pure gold. I love you people, I really do.
