I love the beers this brewing cooperative is putting out and I'm pretty excited about this one. Cromulence was delicious and I'm thinking these limited sours are going to by mighty tasty.

Caleb Levar really knows what he's doing with those sours. So far, the kettle soured beers have all been good (I've had Lactobac 2-7), hopefully the barrel-aged sours are just as good.

Details on the two beers being released? I see that they are "coming soon" but I'd imagine there is some info floating around by now.

I believe the two sours, currently called Barrel 5 and Barrel 10, will be a black sour made from a stout base and the other a traditional sour.

    From the most recent email:

    BARREL FIVE:
Rye Saison aged in French oak barrels for 10 months with a blend of multiple yeast and bacteria strains. This beer represents our first effort at true mixed-culture fermentation. Pale, dry, and tart, it has aromas of toasted coconut, oak, prototypical Brett. "funk," and a vinous, tropical character from additional dry-hopping with Nelson Sauvin hops.

BARREL TEN: Sour Stout aged in French oak barrels for 8 months with a blend of multiple yeast and bacteria strains. This beer shares a similar grain bill with our standard Stout, but the addition of "wild" yeast and souring bacteria has created a dry, tart, amalgamation of Stout and barrel-aged sour. The aroma and flavor is of dark malts, chocolate, and tart cherries, with toasty oak character throughout.

Maybe this belongs in its own thread, but looks like another bottle release from Fair State:

Old Richmond Rye is a rye old ale brewed in collaboration with 45th Parallel Distillery. Aged in New Richmond Rye barrels, it is 7.3% abv and 40 IBU. Deep and malty, with a substantial whiskey and oak character from the barrels, it is the perfect beer to get fall started.

We will be opening up the bottle sales on Thursday 10/8. We have reserved a limited number of these bottles for members, and members are eligible to reserve up to two each. Bottles will be $15 a piece. Sales will begin promptly at 3:00. Members who have reserved their beer ahead of time will be able to pick up any time all day. Non-members, or those who are not able to reserve bottles, will be able to purchase bottles on a first-come-first-serve basis. We are limiting sales to two bottles per-person per day. Members are only able to reserve two bottles ahead of time.

Another brewery calling their AWA a lambic or a geuze? Weak.

I called it a gueze (my bad). Here was their official description: "Basically a Geueze. 3,2 & 1 year old vintages of Lambic blended. Not claiming those terms out of respect for the Belgian Lambic breweries, which are regulated as such. Cheers!"

Both Niko and I are very happy with the way these first bottles turned out. It's been a lot of fun to work with the guys at Fair State, and there are lots and lots of other cool beers patiently waiting in the basement...

What the fuck is AWA? Assuming you aren't referring to the American Wrestling Federation, cuz that's the only AWA I give a shit about.

    American Wild Ale.

And there's no "F" in AWA.

What the fuck is American Wild Ale? Sounds like a terrible malady. I believe the shark has been jumped.
