I'm going to my first Buckeyes game on November 7th and I was curious what the locals would recommend (that will be available around that time) for must-try beer while I'm in the Columbus area? More specifically, anything available that doesn't make its way to Central PA. Thanks all!

Whenever I go to Ohio I always get some Headhunters stuff. Do their beers get past Pittsburgh and out to central PA? I also get some Columbus Brewing Company IPA too. Their Bodhi is very tasty but it is not in bottles.

Sinzanasti - That's absolutely on my radar.

Mothergoose03 - Do you mean Fat Head's? If so, we don't get distro in Central PA and I was happy to see that they popped up on some tap lists that I checked out. I had a taste of the Hop JuJu at a bottle share and look forward to trying some of their other brews.

Yep. I was in a hurry when I replied.

Look for a lot of portly looking guys with red polo shirts tucked into their wrangler jeans.

Any idea where you're staying yet?

Early November so red hoodies are more likely.

Probably see a lot of National Championship gear as well.

We're staying at the Sheraton at Capitol Square. My current plan is to hit CBC before check-in on Saturday, check in at 3, and then create a little walking trail of stops along the way to the Skull Session; filling a cooler with a few bottles or a growler along the way.

The only stop I have so far is House Beer, which is pretty much directly in the walking path and looks like a really cool stop.

Couple things: CBC the restaurant has pretty good food, but is not actually affiliated with CBC the brewery. There is no guarantee they will have Bodhi, so be forewarned. Keep an eye on BeerMenus, though, and chances are pretty good that someplace you visit will have it available.

Looking at your path, I'd strongly recommend you go the couple blocks out of your way to visit Wolf's Ridge. Google Maps says that would only add 3 minutes walking time to your trip. That would also take you right past Elevator, but if you only have time for one, Wolf's Ridge is the way to go.

Then you'll hit High Street. Stop at Barley's. You can walk right out the back door to Barrel & Bottle inside the North Market depending on the time (not sure what the hours are there).

Back on High through the Short North. Tons of bar/restaurants to choose from. Short North Pint House, Melt Bar & Grilled, Pies & Pints and Bodega would all be good options.

Continuing North, I'd take the quick detour to Brothers Drake if that is up your alley. Seventh Son is great too, but it would be a little further off your path.

From there, a brand new World of Beer opened at the South Campus Gateway. Then maybe Eddie George's Grille 27 (pro-tip, use the urinal there for a mind-trip, especially if you are buzzed).

    Have fun!

MajorBuckeye - Thanks for all of the info!

    I'm thinking:

    Wolf's Ridge
    Barley's
    House Beer
    Brothers Drake
Food (Something quick probably. It will be somewhat hard to fit all of this in unless we can get an early checkin)
    Skull Session

Any substitutions or recommendations for a quick food stop?

You're going to have pretty much endless options over the course of day. Anything you're in the mood for you should be able to find on High St. And tons of food trucks around campus. Hot Chicken Takeover is a personal favorite.

Hit up a bottle shop and get some White Rajah. Black Rajah too if they have it.

Great, we'll just not plan a specific food stop and see what grabs our attention then.

Fredmugs - Thanks for the recommendation. Hopefully House Beer carries it. If not I'll glance around on Sunday and see if I can find some.

Drink anything you see from a brewery called Hoof Hearted. Eat some Hot Chicken and go to Wolfs Ridge for brunch. Also check out a nice bar on campus called Ethyl and Tank.

If you're driving to Columbus from PA, there's no shortage of places you can find White Rajah on the way there or the way back. Where will you be crossing the border?

We'll be taking 76 to 70 so it looks like we'll be crossing the border around Wheeling?

Ok, well I'm up closer to Youngstown so I can't really recommend any shops down there. I generally try not to get any closer to West Virginia than I have to. But I doubt you'll have a problem finding it around Columbus.

Will look out for Hoof Hearted and keep Hot Chicken Takeover in mind for Sunday before we head out. I'd do that for lunch on Saturday, but I don't think the timing will work out.

    Thanks again everyone. Extremely helpful!
