Abraxas, Huna, Sip of Sunshine, PseudoSue. All big let-downs for me.

To keep this POSITIVE, Zombie Dust, King Sue, BB Champion Ground, Heady Topper, and Mexican Cake all LIVED up to the hype for me.

KBS - I'm glad I found a single sitting on my shelf at a local place, so I could try it, but it certainly didn't live up to it's reputation.

Heady - Pretty standard Imperial IPA in my book. I would choose King Sue, Abrasive, Burton Baton, and probably Dirtwolf over this one every time.

    Another for KBS!

Also another less hyped beer would be Black Ops......All I tasted was bourbon flavored Champagne. I might have to revisit as this was over a year ago.

KBS comes to mind but I can't help but think that beer would have been balls awesome with 2-3 years of age. It was just a bit much, as it was.

    Sip of Sunshine, BCBCS.

Sip of Sunshine wasn't as juicy as other highly-rated VT IPAs I've had; thought it was good, but outside that rareified tier.

BCBCS was a good BA coffee stout, but I didn't think it was any better than KBS or Big Bad Baptist - and I LOVE regular BCBS.

Me too. Lucky I bought only one can to try. Love coffee stouts but this was pretty disappointing.

Everyone's tastes are different. I would guess we all have had disappointments. My tastes generally go with the bulk of people here, but there have definitely been a few. I usually blame it on a bad bottle, storage, or age.

I was expecting to have some sort of out of body experience with Prairie Bomb! from what I'd heard. Now, don't get me wrong... It's an awesome beer and I really enjoyed it. But it wasn't the life changing experience I'd been led to believe.

However, a locally sourced beer (Sherbrooke Heartstopper, brewed by Paddock Wood in Saskatoon, SK) was a totally unexpected mind trip as I thought it was at least as good as Bomb!

So what have we all learned about getting caught up in hype? :grinning:

Grapefruit Sculpin. I just didn't care for the lingering peel. I also find it ironic that people rip on others for liking fruit beers and it in itself is a fruit beer and is so sought after.

And Founders Breakfast Stout. The coffee was very strong and for me, was hard to drink as it warmed. Was good, but i dont see the hype is necessary.

There are some that lived up to my hype, like Dirtwolf.

And yet I still get all goggly-eyed every time I think about trying to get "my last big want"... 'Tis a sickness, I dare say:wink:

Ha! The best thing to do, then, is to get two. But don't evaluate the first one- chances are you will be comparing it to the beer in your head instead of taking it as it goes.

My theory is that the more you want it, the higher the chance is that you will be let down. It's just like movies. When you walk into the theater with low expectations, you are going to enjoy yourself. If you walk in there expecting some great work of art with high drama, thrills, and masterful cinematography, you will probably not leave satisfied.

The point: try not to get caught up in hype. It's okay to get excited about beer, but don't put a particular beer on a pedestal.

Sip of Sunshine - pretty decent beer but not up to the hype. Most Stone offerings have left me disappointed. But I must say, the highly hyped brews that did live up to it FAR out number the few that didn't. Heady and Focal Bangor, All 7 brews I've tried from Hill Farmstead, Founders CBS, KBS and FBS, 4 Beans and Hi Res from Six Point, Maine Lunch and Troegs Nugget Nectar to name a few have all been worth every accolade they receive. Outstanding brews all.

Westbrook Mexican Cake wasn't that great. DirtWolf was a huge letdown after how much it was talked up - I really wanted to like it but it just was mediocre. Founders CBS...I thought it was ok, but I don't think it's something I would get again. I guess that counts as not living up to the hype for a beer near the top of the top 250.

The majority of beers I've had out of Oskar Blues aside from TenFIDY.

Like Samuel Smiths, I just don't get it

Not really, don't really think it's hype more like personal taste.

BCBS. Tasted too sweet like someone threw a shot of syrup in it.

FBS. Feel and taste was like a watery stout.

Bell's Two Hearted. Maybe I need to revisit this one because the hops tasted like they were nonexistent.
