What beer are you drinking now? #1078

Good morning, and horns up!



A little past midnight here and working on cleaning out the fridge. Hallertau Brewery, Riverhead, Auckland, NZ. Bitter hop goodness and 8.5%. I've had this DIPA a few times now and I like the subtle citrus and earthy bitterness. There is an undercurrent of tropical fruit juice which mingles nicely with the bitter linger. Another kiwi winner.

I was going to play golf today, but it's just too ugly outside to do that. I'm always amazed at how quickly summer turns into autumn.

My go-to witbier. Flavors of lemon, pear, apple, light banana, orange peel, coriander, clove, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/grassy spice and yeast earthiness. Moderate yeast spiciness on the finish with a creamy wheat mouthfeel. This stuff is so outstanding. One of the best witbiers I’ve had.


My go-to amber ale. Nice citrus/herbal/spicy hops and balanced caramel/toasted biscuit/nutty malt flavors with balanced bitterness. Moderate creamy/bready mouthfeel and just spot on to style all around. Love this stuff.


This has been one of a handful of go-to pumpkin ales this year. Flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove; with balanced gingerbread and toasted malt sweetness with some floral/grassy/lightly piney hop notes. Light-moderate bitterness. This one always comes off a touch hoppy, but it also has some of the most actual pumpkin fruit flavor vs spices in the profile. Such a delicious beer.


My 2nd last 2011. This is tasting insane right now. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, light licorice/raisin/vanilla, and char; with a balanced roasted bittersweet finish; with a great creamy/silky mouthfeel. Extremely smooth sipping. Wow!

Dreary, overcast Saturday morning here in water-logged North Jersey. Guess I'll just have to stay inside all day and watch 12+ hours of College Football while I drink large amounts of alcohol...life sure does suck. Have a fantastic day all. Cheers.

Good morning BAs! Another rainy morning here in NW PA - typical for the pre-snow season. Today's breakfast is an old standby that's even better since it was past BB date and I got it for $ 30. It'll become my all day beer after the Straub's Octoberfest is gone. It's been a while since I had any of these - the blonde on the label looks less like Marilyn Monroe than previously and more like the Marilyn Monrobot!

 

Rainy Saturday morning, BA's.....yuck, cold and windy and rain.....had to fire up the furnace for the first time this morning!

Guess it is going to be a stay inside and brew and drink and organize my 300+ beer glassware collection kind of day! Amazing that I just started really collecting beer glasses earlier this year and now have this many....they are like rabbits!

Went to yet another new local brewery last evening with a friend....R. Shea Brewing in Akron.....got a flight of 5 beers, all solid, nothing crazy....nice place!

I did not know this beer existed. I am glad it wasn't around when I was in college. That could've gotten ugly.

 

After weeks in Italy drinking great wine it's nice to come home to some fresh hoppy beer:



And of course gotta have the barleywine to wrap things up!

Still up, 2am Sunday, and now drinking "Black Lung III", a rum barrel-aged smokey stout from Moon Dog Brewing, Abbottsford, Victoria, Australia:





Smokey peat nose; smokey/burnt toast and a little chocolate. Boozy bite inside smokey linger.
