So I finally did it, and bought one of those 1L cans inside the mug, and holy hell this is one amazing Oktoberfest beer. So light and fruity without the burnt caramel vibe a lot of fest beers have.

Never had one like this before. The closest is that new Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest beer which is also a lot lighter in color.

What is the deal with the Wiesen one? Do they sell it besides being in the big cans?

It's also in regular bottles... but not easy to acquire. It might be easiest to get as part of a mixed case.

Give Hofbrau and Weihenstephaner a shot too. They are in the pale family.

(Paulaner's Marzen might just be my favorite O-fest)

I've bought it in 6 pack form before. It's one of my wife's favorite beers, so when it's available, we stock up on it. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, it's what's considered a festbier vs a marzen (Oktoberfest), meaning more like a stronger Helles but not quite a Helles Bock.

Yeah it definitely has more of a Helles vibe going on. Malty, and light. I love it.

Got one of these too, mostly just because I thought the mug was bad ass.
The beer was good but it was pretty standard, as Jason said Weihenstephaner's Fest is a little better

Its their regular pale märzen which is served at the actual oktoberfest.
their amber märzen is mostly brewed for export

It surprised me a bit too when I had it. I mostly bought it for the mug but other than knowing it was a light festbeer and what was on the can I went into it blind. It was a pleasant surprise and dangerously drinkable. I looked at that 1 L of beer and was unsure if I'd be able to finish it. To quell the suspense, I had no problems finishing it.

I bought the mug/can combo as well. Surprisingly , this has been one my favorite beers of the season. Better than SN, Weihenstephaner, and on par with Great Lakes.

If we're talking about the regular Paulaner Festbier, than yeah it's one of the best. Right up there with Spaten. Cheers!

Much better than Weihenstephaners Festbier imo.

I made a similar observation on the SN Oktoberfest thread-
Like others have said- try more of the pale styles!

The real sleeper in that purchase is the mug. You don't know it yet, OP, but that will be your preferred weekend glassware.

I'm looking for the little emoticon... must be missing it... :grinning:

On par with GL? Paulaner Wies'n and GL are 180 degrees apart.

Helles Yah!!! Tasty but not really the Oktoberfest/Marzen style. I like it a lot better than the Paulaner Marzen!!!
#1 Ayinger - #2 Paulaner Oktoberfest Wiesn...I wish they sold the cans in a 12 pack!

Helles Ja, I love Paulaner Bier. And their Marzen is a winner too.

I get the wiesn whenever I see it - that stuff's awesome. I too, bought it for the mug the first time. Sometimes I see it in a 12. Wish I could find a 12 of 1L cans, that'd be the stuff!
