After 36 hours and you've been online doing other things, welcome to my ignore list! Too bad, because I'm a very generous trader who truly enjoys sharing the beer love. You won't be getting any of that from me.

Ever hear the joke about two bulls standing on top of a hill looking down on a meadow of cows? Look it up.

Hope you win all of your trades!

Completely agree and I have been doing the same (ignoring/blocking people). I've had way too many people read my message and then not respond for 24+ hours until they've collected all of their other offers.

IMO, a big part of the problem is all the posts that say, "pm for ratio's" after posting a long list of ft and iso. Some of those people are just looking to collect offers.

I'll never stop being annoyed by this. Happens far too often. Had a guy set up to do his first trade with me, offered up any advice and help he needed to get his box sent out ... he went silent. I'm guessing he got a better offer and just didn't have the balls to tell me. Have fun trying to win them all.

    This is probably just karma.

It's almost as bad as people who don't scan the forums for similar topics before posting...

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/trading-communication.339836/

Haha, I'm just giving you shit. I agree, it's an incredibly frustrating problem. And it's especially annoying because ultimately, there isn't anything that can be done about it aside from what you're doing and simply blocking those people who exhibit terrible etiquette.

I'm pretty sure a similar thing happened to me recently. New trader with one trade under their belt. We exchange a few messages back and forth with what sounds like the makings of a finalized deal (we were in talks about specific bottles and dollar amounts). Then, the person goes dark--never even returned to open and view my last message in spite of being active on the site.

Then a week or two ago, I see a new ISO:FT posted in the forums offering up the bottles that I had been interested in. I'm not exactly sure what happened. I guess they decided somewhere along the way that they could get a better offer for their bottles.

As a person who has traded with 4truth, I can honestly say you are missing out when you don't trade with this guy! One of the best traders I have had the pleasure of sharing beer with.

Cheers dude, hope you can land what you're looking for with a more veteran BA.

being able to close an ISO post would probably cut down on that. i try to reply to everyone to let them know it's closed, but after a while you just get busy.

It's rude, IMO. However, it's not just new traders (though they seem to often be the culprits).

I have been running into a lot more rudeness and lack of social skills lately.

I recently posted an ISO with very specific ratios. Got a response from someone asking for more than the ratio I posted, so I replied and (very politely) repeated the ratio I had listed was my offer and asked if he was still interested - crickets. Not even a simple 'no thanks'.

I ended up doing the exact ratio I had posted, so I am pretty sure I just ran across someone who had to 'win' and get an extra bottle. The 'ignore' button is getting more of a work out these days...

It's definitely not just new traders – been seeing this more from established users as well the last month or two.

Not sure I understand how the cow joke applies, though. :grinning:

Report the threads that say pm for ratios. They will likely be deleted.

I trade on a rare basis, but this irritates the bejesus out of me... I always let the first reply have the first grab and let all others know right away "i have X amount in line, i'll keep you posted if it falls through for some reason". I've come across that as well on not just beer advocate.

:stuck_out_tongue: LOL perhaps not the best application of the joke but the idea was that trade "winning" is a mindset designed on a quick, short-term gain from a single or small number rather than focusing on the big picture (specifically: beer is awesome and meant to be shared), being generous with the beer love and spreading it amongst many.

Yup, this is just a loophole for auctioneers so that they can make it look good but behind closed doors, they're just waiting to see who gives the best ratio. Just another reason why replies should be back on. Nobody cares to report these posts and even if they do, by the time they're reported, reviewed, and taken down, the auctioneer may have 4-5 offers to sort through which is exactly what they want.

Along those lines...in response to numerous user BMs/complaints/etc. as well as those from us (the wurst mods)...

We've implemented (at least for now) a change to that effect in the trading rules:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-trading-updates.257058/#post-4130222

So yeah, report away on these...for a few days, I fully expect mayhem, but such as life. :astonished:

Boom! I am going to get through more than 1 bag of popcorn watching this unfold... Thanks for the update - hopefully it helps settle down the trade forums and get the offers more specific.

A thought occurs (yeah, it hurt. not used to them). What if people just post a FT and an ISO list with nothing else? I assume this is a tacit "BM for ratios"?

We'll start with simple deletions/notifications (i.e., no warnings), but persistent offenders will be warned and may have trade privileges disabled or revoked.

This should also give users better tools to report behind the scenes auctions. If users aren't abiding by the ratios in their posts, you should report them (if you can link the ISO, so much the better) so we can take appropriate action. Maybe it works, maybe not. We'll see.

Let's tackle one problem at a time.

If we need to tighten that up later, it's something we can address. I fully expect the trade winners and auctioneers to adapt, but every slice we can take away helps.

Or when people just write "some combination of..." and then list tons of beers ranging from local shelf to brewery only releases. That's basically someone's way of saying "I'm going with whoever wants to least amount or lowest valued bottles from this list".
