It took us awhile to sort this out, but here's a good story...

I have a friend (off of BA) who I trade with semi-regularly. He used a 6-bottle styro shipper that I had previously shipped to him, to ship to another person. This third-party then used the box to ship back to my friend. So I get a call from UPS this morning, but it went to VM before I could get to it. Somebody purporting to be from UPS, damaged package, whatever. Delete it right away, sounds like a scam. I'm not expecting any boxes, nor have I shipped within the last month, and I also get notifications so I figure it's garbage.

Midday, I'm having lunch with my wife, who tells me a package showed up at the house with both my name, and my friend's name on it. "Who was the shipper?" I say. She isn't sure (huh?) Message my friend quick, he hasn't sent anything to me. So I go home to investigate the mystery package. It's a brown box, not the white U-line styro shipper box. The box itself is completely undamaged. The styro shipper insert is inside, missing one beer, along with plenty of dark brown stains on it, and the bottles are all sticky.

Here's the label. The label that the 3rd party created is taped to the box (with his name and a return address in a different state clearly visible), and there are some other labels stuck on top, saying return it to ME:

The tracking number on those labels are from a shipment that I sent in June, and was delivered to my friend safely. Somehow, the geniuses handling this box managed to repack it, put the correct label back on the new box, and then grab the wrong return address off of an old label, and send the thing to me.

Given that they called me this morning, I'm expecting a UPS nastygram at some point soon. :flushed: On the humorous side, I now have a tracking number that shows a package that was delivered twice - in June as well as in October.

The moral - take the old labels off. Put a copy of your label inside the box if you're worried about it coming off.
