I'd press her for more info. She may not have a clue but if she asked her friends a few questions she'd be able to give you better info.

I wouldn't get bombers, the 4 packs of 11.2 ounces are a much better value. And given the high abv's 11.2 ounce bottles make more sense as well.

This seems like a pretty good question to ask, considering that light vs. dark is a difference that even people who don't know a thing about beer are going to take notice of. At the very least, if they have a clear answer you'll be able to narrow it down a little, since Belgian styles just from what I've seen seem to range from just about the palest yellows you can get in a beer to browns so dark they're almost black!

Like the first reply said.. NB all the way. Especially when they said Belgians but don't know wtf kind. It is easily the most bang for your buck, and easily accessible.

If she knows nothing about beer and says she likes Belgians. She means Blue Moon (or Stella). Don't buy the good stuff. Save your money.

Duvel. Complex, delicious, and extremely drinkable.

EVERYBODY HOLD YOUR HORSES! Most important question: what kind of a party is this going to be? Sophisticated polite dinner party or midlife crisis college-reincarnation rager? What I'm getting at is: are people going to actually care about the beer and how it gets paired with the rest of the party, or do they just want decent booze?

If I had to say, go for the cheaper stuff. For all we know she saw her friend drinking a Blue Moon and read "Belgian-Style" on the bottle and is going off of that. She's one step away from saying her friends like "dark beer".

Totally forgot about Blue Moon.. That is probably exactly what she meant by Belgians. Get a couple six'ers and watch them all rub your nub.

She could also mean Stella for all we know. I think that the op needs to come back with something more specific to get the helpful ball rolling.

Yeah its my wife's friend's 50th. The birthday girl drinks Champagne and I guess her friends are Belgian beer fans. So I am thinking if that is the case they know their shit or like some said they think Belgian beers begin and end with Stella...then I am screwed. I ended up going to BevMo and getting a 750ml of Duvel, 6 pack Hoegaarden, 6 pack New Belgian Abbey, a few individual beers, Leffe, New Belgian Trippel, and grabbed the 750ml of Tank 7 (I am a Boulevard fan). It is hard for me because I really don't drink wheat/Belgian beers. I have some IPA bombers, Negro Modelo and some other beer laying around I will throw in there. Thanks for all the advice.

I wish I had access right now to the 'laughing and crying' emoji.

Man, that 'dark beer' sh*t drives me nuts.

Ha good question. Well its mostly women and mostly wine drinkers, the main course is Pizza, so not really a sophisticated party, but not a rager either. My 50th will be the rager for sure...Ha. As a professional alcoholic though I always wanna have my bases covered when it comes to the booze options at a party.

This is the correct answer. Don't waste Chimay or Tank 7 on this one...

Orval for sure. You might look at Gulden Draak. Even my 24 year old daughter likes this and she is not a beer drinker. These are a bit expensive, but extremely good,

Amen man! It took about 10 responses to actually give the OP some real advice. American versions of the real thing don't cut it.

And yet somehow new belgium abbey is a better beer than 90% of the "true" dubbels on the market.
