So @MikeMcGraw hosted myself, the missus, and a handful of coworkers for some drinks last night. Boy, that escalated quickly. Brick killed a guy. Bottles courtesy of our respective BIF senders, LIF's, and our own stashes.
Cant speak for the others, but I was home by midnight, up at 6:30 to walk the dog, and now heading out to run errands. Those years playing rugby really paid off.
The results from last night's bottle share. From left to right: Rodenbach Caractere Rouge Mikkeller Spontangrape Hopping Frog B.O.R.I.S Van Wink Abbyss 2008 Cantillon Mamouche 2013 Cantillon Lou Pepe 2002 Chevalier Bertrand Du Guesclin Jolly Pumpkin Rojzilla Mikkeller Spontan Cherry This was a two man bottle share and our wives, mind you they just like to try a sip here and there. So we got this far and the kids stared to act like monsters, and the women thought our beer talk was getting annoying. Needless to say the line up was a little to big for a two man share, that or we need to keep the women and kids at home.
Welcome to BIF box envy gentlemen (aka @Littlelotte88 syndrome), it is a serious but treatable disease. I saw all of the other boxes & worried that I didn't have enough in mine. To treat this just sub out some local bottles for Black Note, Sunday Morning & BBPt5th then add more bottles to the box. Together we can cure this disease...and destroy porches /psa
How was the 2002 LPK? I've had that fresher and LOVE it, so vibrant; I'm curious to know how it ages? (I assume well, but specifically 'how' as well).
Well for a 13 year old "fruited" it was still highly enjoyable, but has nothing on a fresh one. Starting from the color, no longer a vibrant cherry color and now is a dingy amberish red. Surprisingly still nicely carbonated, you can feel the heartburn coming on as you get the first sniff on this. You still get a nice sour cherry on the nose a little musty smell too. Taste is nice with overly sour cherry, mouth puckering at first sip and the acidity hits you hard as it goes down. After the initial sour shock it mellows nicely and might even pick up a little note of vanilla on the back end. All and all a fun beer to drink, it was cool to see what 13 years will do to it. If I get my hands on another LPK I would for sure drink it fresh.
Interesting... I've got a bottle I was planning on forgetting about for a looooong time, like as long as that bottle was laid down, but maybe I'll have to open it soon.
