Enjoying a left hand Oktoberfest. So robust and strong and malty. I know its not a "real" thing but if we can coin the term here and now what Oktoberfest beers would you consider....

Left Hand Oktoberfest almost 7% the highest ive seen and the flavors are intense

DuClaw Mad Bishop is so toasty its ridiculous also higher abv than ive seen

This was my go to Oktoberfest before they stopped distributing it to Oklahoma about 3 years ago.

Avery Kaiser and Boulder Dragonhosen are 10.2 and 9.0 respectively, according to this site. I have never tried either.

Couldn't a Maibock and/or Doppelbock be considered an "Imperial Oktoberfest"?

Dragonhosen. Probably needs some age to cool it down. It is super hot and almost too much young.

Not a style that needs the imperial treatment. IMHO.

Agreed. Sort of defeats the purpose. Much like an imperial pilsner.

@nicholasofcusa found the highest and most widely available I saw.

To me, a high ABV Oktoberfest would just ruin the experience. It is only a lager after all.

Avery The Kaiser manages the rare feat of being an Imperial while tasting like a Marzen. The expected maltiness and spiciness associated with the style are there. There's no mistaking The Kaiser for a Doppelbock.

A real shame that ATL didn't receive any this year.

    Couldn't agree more.
The drink-ability is what makes it one of my favorites.

I'll vouch for the Dragonhosen. Drinks deceptively easy.

I've had The Kaiser, a little too boozy and I typically like higher ABV stuff. I laid one down and will be doing a side by side with this years in the near future. GLBC hitting theirs at 7.5% is right on for me.

Overall, I'd agree with you, but that said, Avery's The Kaiser is spectacular! I look forward to it every year, and I ap always include it in my Oktoberfest festivities.

Yep, only a lager given special affinity because it's German. Don't get me wrong, There are some fantastic Oktoberfests, But some people treat it like the second coming of whichever messiah they believe in and I don't find it as special as they do.

But hey, that's just my opinion
