How is that? I am seeing that a lot on here on BA and on facebook. Infused DIPA? What is it infused with?

Greeting NBS friends! It's a beautiful fall day along the southern shore for drinking and cooking on the patio. I'm starting today by digging into my goodies from my road trip. Going with a beer I see a lot of around here, and I happened across a couple in Boulder Colorado. Let's take this Peche Mortel for a taste test!

It pours a rather thin looking pitch black color leaving a generous finger of mocha colored foam. The aroma is espresso forward with dark roast, some smoke, and vanilla. It has a wonderful dark coffee forward flavor with some bakers chocolate and vanilla in the finish. The feel is on the thin side and a bit fizzy.

Overall an excellent beer that ranks with the best of the style. Great coffee flavor and my only minor complaint is the thin feel. I'm glad I bought two and I'll be looking for more in my travels.

The pork loins are smelling good and enticing!

Have a great Sunday! Link to review.......

I agree. I love hot, spicy food. However, hot, spicy beer is not my cup o' beer. When it's waltzing with the other flavors, I'm happy. When it's bulldozing its way through your mouth, I'm bewildered.

All the way to (five hundred) schfifty five!
I'm enjoying Cleveland Beer Week with two of this year's collaboration brews, so new I had to add both to BA.
On the left is Mad Victory Dog, a collaboration between MadCap, Victory and Thirsty Dog. The style is described as "Dunkel Hefe Weizenbock". Figure that one out; I just entered it as a Weizenbock. For the style it's solid, exactly what you'd expect but nothing more. I'm going to have to try to find out more about MadCap as they're local but nano to the extreme.

On the right is Three Badgered Brewers, a wet-hopped old ale using Michigan hops brought to us by Fat Heads, Cornerstone and Green Flash. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow. If you're near Cleveland get yourself to Fat Heads or a Heinens and try this. Dare I say this is better than all of the heavily hopped beers Fat Heads is known for with the hops' freshness, and in the old ale style the malt underneath the hops is very present and makes for a nice balance. One of the best beers I've had recently, it's supposed to only be brewed once but somehow I hope it finds its way into a seasonal lineup.

    Cheers!

    New American Imperial Stout Sunday...

    ...
here at The Jersey Shore, where it's beautiful, as always. There are 65 sunny degrees and clear blue skies and barely a breeze. Another day in paradise.

I am lucky to have a few new beers this week. What counts, though, is today's new brew. I'm drinking it now and I've never had it prior. Here goes:

Is it tasty? Does it run in a tropical direction, or is it piney? I'm curious about that one.

Hey guys - my first time posting here in NBS but had the chance to try something new I'm really enjoying and thought I'd take a stab at this. If I'm doing it wrong, please let me know. Cheers!

Review I just posted, 4.5 overall:

    Look: 4.5
Pours clear amber with a tight foamy head that recedes quickly but leaves a nice ring. No lacing to speak of.

    Smell: 4.25
Nose hits with a bright funk forward, some dried fruit notes there - dried cherries specifically. Muted hop presence with a hint of some oak.

    Taste: 4.5
Really great flavors here - though to me not overly complex. Definite pucker forward with a big hop bitterness. Sour is lacking in any vinegar flavor which is nice. Fruit flavors seem a bit muddled and buried but cherry is the big flavor that comes through for me. Wonderful blend of sour and bitter, with really negligible sweetness to speak of. Nothing offsetting it and it's quite nice.

    Feel: 4.75
The feel here is the achievement imo. Carbonation level is spot on - tight and bringing a subtle bitterness, great body and incredibly smooth, velvety texture. Surprisingly gentle in terms of how sour and bitter this is overall. Truly wonderful on the palate with a finish that lingers on the hops more than anything.

well it's nine thirty here in paris, so here is an appropriate send off to go with my dark chocolate

this RIS is not even comparable to say old Rasputin!
pours ebony with burnt butter head

this is a BIG beer! scents of licorice grab your nostrils also I get the tarragon and some rye bread
very complex, there is a lot going on here. The dark and rye malts play a large role
thick in the mouth , the anise invades your senseswith an odd finish that I think is from the armanac barrels

yehah! go out and get you some. I say 4.3/5 bon nuit!

I want to say that old Rasputin is much more chocolat based than this beer. that's my synopsis for you, and I love the pretenders!

This NBS has turned into a sort of eastern Washington hat trick. This time I'm much closer to home with a RIS from No-Li, a brewery I've been very up and down with over the years, in part because of their former owner, which led me to avoid them for a long time. Since his departure I've been easing myself back in, but have largely found them to be mostly style over substance:

Wow. Wasn't expecting this to be that good, frankly. It's not going to change my preferences for the style, but, damn. Not bad at all. I really want to set up a side-by-side of this with Iron Goat's Goatnik for a local RIS showdown.

New Beer Sunday, one of my favorite days.
It's been an absolutely beautiful fall weekend in southern Maine. I got a lot of outdoor work done, and played a decent round of golf today.
I picked up 24 Carrot Golden Ale yesterday at the Kittery 7-11.
In a snifter it's a bright golden color with a small head.
It has the aroma of a carrot cake: cinnamon, nutmeg, carrot, cream cheese.
And it tasted like a carrot cake, too.
The problem is there's a really harsh aftertaste (maybe too much nutmeg) that really detracts from the overall experience.
    Oh, well. C'est la vie.
