Definitely not necessary, but realistically I know I won't be able to turn down tasty Boston beer.

    If it's 5 beers and a sandwich it's a pretty reasonable deal.

The price is steep but its one of the few beers i think you really get your money's worth. That's probably the best barrel aged beer we can find all year round in pittsburgh. The $27/4 pack price is similar or less than most barrel aged bomber prices (clown shoes, etc...). I buy a few 4 packs every year but i should probably just pick up a case when i see one to save a few bucks.

Don't bother with BA 12 Dogs. It was pretty awful. Aside form BA Siberian Night and Wulver, Thirsty Dog doesn't make anything worth drinking for free, let a lone buying.

Backwoods Bastard > Wulver. This one isn't remotely close for me.

I like wulver more than backwoods bastard, but they're similar enough that 9 times out of 10 I would pick backwoods because it's $10 cheaper for a 4 pack.

Yeah $27 for 48 oz of beer isn't a steep price at all. I am sure people paid more for bottles of lesser quality.

I can't say that I've ever had a barrel aged winter warmer, so I'm still intrigued / interested in trying it. Their products are always a good $3-4 more than similar beers, and I always wonder who buys their stuff.

This,, although for me, I prefer Wulver much more than Backwoods. Also, Backwoods Bastard's availability is limited, whereas I see Wulver basically year round.

I feel like I say this all the time...but I'm gonna say it again...BA Pilgrim's Dole continues to fly under the radar and is a fantastic shelf BA beer...

    EDIT: I think it's usually $17-$18 a 4-pack at GE...

I had the BA 12 Dogs a few years back, when it first came out. It was on draft and thought it was pretty good. I thought they made a poor decision to only bottle it in those magnum bottles. Im not sure if they have continued to make this or those are still the original bottles. As for the GL BA Xmas, it doesn't sound bad, and it is one of the few xmas beers I enjoy. I haven't had it for a while just because around here its like Pumpking and people go nucking futs for it around here. The best BA xmas beer Ive had was the Frosted Frog from HF that they aged in Pappy barrels when they did the Boris van Wink. Excellent beer.

I also agree with you on Wulver as well. I am a big BB fan, but I think Wulver is better. True that BB is cheaper, but it is definitely harder to come by around here.

As if I don't jerk Hoppin Frog enough, their barrel aged Frosted Frog is the best Christmas beer I've had I think.

Do you though? I can't recall a single pro-Hoppin Frog post of yours...

I've actually never had anything from Hoppin' Frog. Their bombers all look the same and are pretty pricey. Dumb reasons for not trying them, but they are one of those breweries whose products I know literally nothing about.

I actually liked Wulver a bit more, and I love Backwoods... But for the price difference, give me Backwoods. Best thing Founders makes, IMO.
