So people hate on breweries that sellout. They say they will never buy beer from them again. Then Bourbon County season comes around and they are more than happy to fork over tons of money to AB InBev. I understand it's a GREAT line of beers but it seems like people don't really do what they say when push comes to shove.

I'm not trying to piss anyone off. I'm just curious what is it that allows Bourbon County to be the exception to funnel money to InBev and perpetuate the buy up of our local favorite breweries. Like I said, not trying to offend anyone as I have hunted it down. Just trying to open up a dialogue on it.

    Yup. Title sums it up.

I try to avoid AB brands, but I don't do it absolutely. I'll take a Goose IPA over the fizzy yellow stuff if I have to. In general I support the craft brewers more often out of the principle. Some things cannot be denied though. Bourbon County is exceptional and I can't deny that AB acquired a great beer.

I never quite understood why people hate the big macro companies so much as institutions. I see why Budweiser/Coors are forgettable as beers, but Goose Island being owned by a macro does not deter me from enjoying their beer. At least not their high end stuff.

So what is it that pisses people off about the buy up of small breweries then?

Perhaps the GBG [Greater Beer Geekery] is not a single monolith - and those are two different subsets of people within the greater grouping?

How long has rare and maybe other varieties been sitting in the barrels? Before AB got them? Maybe people will truly give them up once pre-AB beer finally runs out, since that's not "really" AB beer yet... Just kidding

Because most people are all talk, no action. Love to complain and hate on things, and love to voice their superior opinions on the Internet.

I really don't care who owns who. Is the beer good? Is it less than a kings random? Put it in my mouth.

I do feel like there is a large overlap of both subsets, though. Not backed with facts. But it seems to be the case.

Right, so is it more about the final product than who is making it? If the big D's can buy up the small breweries and still keep up the quality and innovation, then what's the harm?

That, my homey, I don't understand either. As long as the sought-after beer isn't harmed detrimentally in its recipe, there should be no qualms other than 'I support local.' The way I see it is that I get to try beers that I may not would have a chance to before the merger, and, without trading, I have no negative responses, though my wallet might.

It's really people just wanting to act tough and self righteous but deep down they also need to post about the whalez to fit into beeradvocate.

I've been on that side at one time.

Now I drink what I enjoy the most, with price in mind, and freshness being important too. I love PU, it is fresh, it is affordable, it is easy to obtain - I buy it. Same with some other examples - Franziskaner, Goose Island seasonals I like as well as Honkers Ale.

I'm just one guy. Those pennies on the dollar going to the "bad guys" are small in the big picture. And long ago I realized I was not consistent in living those old values in other areas of my life, as I'd wager virtually everyone here is who has some sort of Inbev ethical boycott stance.

I hear that. F Wal-Mart, except when it comes to their convenience and low low everyday roll back prices.

I feel like when I skip over the InBev and reach for the craft it's not for the company, it's for me. Almost like I'm doing my good deed. I think I need to sh*t or get off the pot when it comes to my beer values.

The biggest issue may be that the bigger companies are publicly traded companies and it is all about satisfying the shareholders. The fear is that the quality and innovation will falter to the focus turns to profit. On the flip side, with bigger companies comes wider distribution.

All in all, who cares about size, focus on quality. If the beer fits, drink it.

I base everything of product. I can not deny a product when it is good no matter what the origin. The only thing I object to whenever a macro buys out someone smaller is when the product suffers and the innovation in trying new recipes and ideas stop completely. Other then that I got no hate toward the macros like some ppl because there will always be small breweries with passionate people making great stuff.

I adhere to one rule and one rule only; does it taste good?

If that means an ice cold Budweiser on a hot day, so be it. If it's an imperial stout or even bourbon in the winter, great. Better yet, if it's shotgunning a NYFRB after a long day of work, have it people! Enjoy what you drink and quit thinking so much about it!

To complicate things even more, Goose Island allocates more Bourbon County to stores that sell more of the core Goose Island offerings. But some of the same people that want Bourbon County won't buy the core Goose Island beers because that would... support AB InBev?

As long as Bourbon County remains the standard in barrel aged stouts - and in my opinion, it easily is - I will continue to buy it.

Do I refuse to buy cars from "big guy" manufacturers? Do I refuse to buy coffee unless the roaster has in-state distro only? Is my TV made from a local hipster?

I don't like supporting the bigger corporations, but when the product is actually superior, why ride a high horse? Why punish them (for producing a superior product) and yourself (by depriving yourself of that product)?

I don't blame people who boycott AB-Inbev on pure principle; I'm just not one of them.

I will support the hell out of InBev when they buy breweries like Goose Island and are able to keep growing and expanding bourbon county like they do....Superb job in my opinion
