In November 2016, Oklahoma voters will likely get the opportunity to change the 3.2 beer law in their state, which could affect the other four states with 3.2 beer laws – Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Minnesota.

“3.2 beer,” aka low-point beer, is 3.2% alcohol by weight (ABW), which is equal to about 4% alcohol by volume (ABV).

Oklahomans are the largest consumers of 3.2 beer. According to an Oklahoma News9 article, 95% of all beers sold to Oklahoma consumers are 3.2 / low-point beers. So if 3.2 beer were eliminated in Oklahoma, it would likely create a ripple effect on the other four states. To add, Kansas is also moving forward on legislation to abolish its 3.2 beer laws.

I'll believe it when I see it... Notice it doesn't even hit the ballot until 11 months from now:angry:

Move & don't look back. Once they figure how much they are losing in taxes, they will either set up Utah style check points/stings or they will wake the hell up & get with the program.

I'll believe it when I see it, but considering how numerous the teetotalers, and their associated groups, are around here I would be shocked if this passed on a state-wide vote.

So are Bud and Bud Light both 3.2% or is the light version even lower ABW?

@TTUJohn, that is how is has been for decades. Unrefrigerated if it is over 3.2 ABW and only available in liquor stores.

Looks like Anheuser-Busch, which outright own two so-called "WOD's" (wholly-owned distributors) in Oklahoma, is for changing the 3.2 laws. They even left the OK distributors group, Beer Distributors of Oklahoma, this summer over the issue, with their spokesman saying:
The laws in the 3.2 states typically are written so that the beers in question have to be labeled as being "not more than 3.2 abw":

and there is typically not other ABV/ABW info on the labels (unless things have changed with the recent consumer interest in more info on labels?) and even less info on the big brewers' websites about these beers, which make up a small percentage of the total US production (under 2%, according to The Beer Institute's Brewers Almanac). For instance, they are not even listed on either brewers' "Nutritional Info" pdf pages - AB or MC.- but comparing Bud Light's nutritional info from that pdf to that of the 3.2 label, they do change it to reflect the even lower alcohol beers' other info:

Budweiser's label does not typically list nutritional info, so one can't compare, unfortunately.

I'd imagine they strive for just meeting "under 3.2 abw" rule and ignore the normal differences between Bud and Bud Light.

With AB and MC making most of their beers via the high gravity method, and diluting to required "normal" strength at packaging, probably the biggest portion of the added expense to make "3.2 beer" is related to production scheduling, separate labeling and transportation/distribution etc.

The bill is already watered down to the point I really care that much either way. I will vote for it, just to at least to try to get this state pushed into the 1950s:rolling_eyes:
