Pretty cool interview on MarketWatch with Peter Zien, owner of AleSmith. I thought it gave some really cool insights into the nitty gritty of owning a brewery, and his perspective on the state of craft beer, its growth potential, and how he personally approaches all that was pretty enlightening. Worth a read if you've got a sec.

My respect and appreciation for Alesmith increased after reading that.

Alesmith was the only San Diego brewery besides Stone on my radar when I got into craft beer about 10 years ago and it always seemed strange that their growth and availability outside SD was minimal while all these newer outfits were blowing up. Glad things have turned out well and the future is looking bright.

IPA is finally moving into six packs and...
"we’re already thinking about future projects: Throwing the high-gravity beers like Speedway Stout, Wee Heavy, Old Numbskull and Decadence into smaller formats and mix six-packs or four-packs of those. We’ve got a lot of people thinking about this."

Yeah, loved that quote about mix six-packs/four-packs. Would be so much fun to get a little mixer of Speedway, Wee Heavy, Numbskull, and Decadence.

Interesting interview, thanks for sharing. Definitely appreciate how candid Peter Zien was, both from a personal and financial standpoint. All I know is that AleSmith produces some great beers. I would be thrilled if their current expansion eventually means distribution in New Jersey, especially in 4 or 6 packs!

A 4pack mixer of Speedway, Wee Heavy, Numbskull and Decadence....now that is a great package deal there and something I'd be all over. Great idea for any other brewer that does 4 really good well respected/high ABV brews. 4 12oz bottles...what would be a fair value for that on retail shelf? $25?

    Good article. Great brewery.

Smaller format Alesmith bottles? Where do I sign up?
