Hard day to sit around inside. I finished raking my lawn, just had some lunch and now am sitting back to enjoy a new beer. Jester King Autumnal Dichotomous. Dark crimson with a 2.5 finger khaki head. Thick cap and spotty lacing. Light citrus aromas with malts and dark tart fruit. Tart and malty with some cherry/apple like flavor. Funk is minimal and it does have a faint squash flavor on the finish. Easy to drink with a tingly carbonation and drying finish. This was enjoyable for this very beautiful fall day.

Beautiful pics, Corey. And your choice from Alewerks is one that I recently had. Blew me away. You're description captured the bliss I found in that porter. I didn't have the carbonation issue that you described, but I found that one stunning. Alewerks has been killing it with their big ones.

Just now roasting some ribs and my son cracked a Bruery Terreux Oude Tarte. Sorry, no picture, but this beer is very interesting. It looks like tepid August creek water, like old tea, dead flat, but explosive in the nose and alive like a real Belgian. 4 of us split it and all agreed that appearnce and flavor are not always related. This beer had a prickly citric edge, urging further sips, and suddenly the bottle was gone. It is an authentic Flemish-style ale, not made for knocking back, but for sipping and learning. I'm sure none of us will forget this taste experience. It is quite a good beer and evocation.

Ahhh another sunday what an awesome day!
Was up early dropping my mom off at the airport to head back to CT so I decided to start some Chili to be ready for football...so now im watching the New England/Jets game and cracked a beer I picked up in CT that I was really excited about!

From The Bruery Terreux Beret "Imperial sour wit ale brewed with spices and aged in oak barrels with raspberries"

L: Pours a hazy golden orange with a nice finger head with bubbles streaming up supporting it for a few minutes then leaving a fine rim of foam...very appetizing looking beer.

S: Immediately get a blast of tart horse blanket barnyard funk followed by a slight fruity raspberry scent very light ..

T: WOW! Right off the bat the raspberries and oak come through again like the smell the raspberries are very light which I was worried about glad its not overpowering.. that quickly fades to a gueuze like character of tartness and funk ...everything I love in a beer like this!

F: Very effervescent a nice crisp feeling that really complements this style

O: I paid 17$ for the bottle and I would again no questions asked for me its perfect..... as my first beer from the bruery im blown away really well made beer this is.

My only complaint is I didn't bring more back from CT!

Good afternoon NBS'ers! Long time no see. Life has been a bit of a tornado lately with work, lawncare, home renovations, automotive repairs, and this cold I've been getting rid of for going on 3 weeks. I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this beautiful fall day. Man, this is the weather I've been waiting for. Anyway, on to the beer.

For this edition, I decided to follow in the same vein as my last few NBS posts and try out this interesting looking & sounding offering from one of my favorite breweries, the infamous Jackie O's. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to Athens that my immediate area sees a lot of their distribution. I picked up a couple Dark Apps and OoA's alongside this one. Mmm.

    Da beer

My photography sucks, but in person, this was one of the most beautifully colored beers I've ever had.

    Very cool artwork, too

    Da re...view

12.7 oz. bottle into a Duvel glass. Dark, rustic brown/orange in color on the pour - it certainly looks like liquefied "pumpkin flesh", as the bottle description says. Beautiful, menacing, and a little sexy once in the glass though - this beer is a beautiful crimson/ruby color topped off with about 1 finger of vanilla-colored foam. The head bubbled down to a creamy, dense lacing after about 2 minutes. Nice pumpkiny nose, as you'd expect. Sweeter than some I've had, but not cloyingly so. I get lots of pumpkin spice and ginger mainly. Baking spices like nutmeg and cinammon are pretty evident as well. Maybe some vanilla in there. The aroma on this beer is nice, albeit a bit weak for such a big beer (the BA description says 7.5% but my bottle says 9%).

Medium weight to this with lots of carbonation. The initial feel is fairly creamy, which is nice. I can't stand a thin, watery pumpkin ale honestly. Anyway, on to the taste. Lots of spice in this one, and not necessarily pumpkin spice. While there is a definite pumpkin flavor, it's balanced with an equal amount of raw baking spices. Loads of raw cinammon, ginger, nutmeg, coriander, and sweet malts. I'd almost guess there's cardamom in there, too, but no mention of it on the bottle so who knows. At 9%, I do get a little bit of alcohol, especially on the finish. It's nice and warming, though - not at all overpowering or offensive. It works well.

Finishes fairly smooth and leaves a spice-filled aftertaste in its wake. Honestly not a lot of pumpkin on the aftertaste..it's more coriander, ginger, and booze. Interesting.

Overall, a very interesting take on a beer style that's hit-or-miss in my book. This one was one of the better pumpkin beers I've had, if for no other reason than it's individuality. Never had one anything like this. I feel like if you were to take 2/3 part Shlafly Pumpkin Ale and mix it with 1/3 part 3 Floyds Alpha Kong, this beer would be the result (I loved both of the former, by the way). Good stuff. I'd like to pick up a few more bottles to cellar and try after the alcohol subsides a bit.

    Da scores

Chimay Red hasn't been the same since they went from open to conical fermenters. If you tried it about 13 years ago I bet you would have thought it was world class, which it was. Cheers

Sierra Nevada Ovila Abbey Saison this beer is brewed with local Mandarin oranges and peppercorns. This is one nice brew, thick white head, cloudy orange color, an aroma of oranges and herbs and good body and mouth feel. Simply put this beer tastes great the oranges and pepper work well together and leave a very pleasant after taste in your mouth. well done.

I'm not really good at writing full reviews

    Alesmith Speedway Stout:

Dark as night, poured into snifter with a beautiful tan head

Smells like very good coffee, almost like a mocha latte that's not too sweet

Tastes like coffee, dark chocolate, and a hint of booze (being 12.0% ABV I would expect that)

overall: 4.7/5. Definitely on the level of Founders Breakfast Stout, but a bit boozier.

Had this a few weeks back and was also, if not equally, pleasantly surprised. Thought the level of tartness was great, and the raspberry was noticeable to be true to the labeling. Definitely won't pass up on once in a while at its price point!

Hello NBS friends! It's a beautiful autumn day for beer on the patio once again. The brilliant sunshine has prompted me to open something I picked up in Colorado but haven't got around to. It's time to open the Progenitor from Crooked Stave in Denver. It's an odd sized 375 ml dated June 2015 poured into a twelve ounce tulip glass.

Pours a brilliant hazy gold with a generous amount of lively white foam. Looks like liquid sunshine! The aroma is acidic and tinged with barnyard funk. There's a bit of lemon zest in there as well. It's flavor begins on the tart and acidic side with a bit of vinegar-like presence. It morphs into something a little more tropical with a lemon drop taste. There is a bit of hop spiciness in the finish. The feel is tart and acidic to begin, with a slick, refreshing end.

Overall a very complex and refreshing beer with a medley of funky and citric flavor. The dry hopping held up very well despite its age and I was a bit hesitant to review it. I did buy it refrigerated and kept it cold since purchase, so I'm sure that helped. I'd definitely drink this one again as it was a pleasant beer and change of pace for me. My score was 4.12 / rDev -1.7%.

Have a great Sunday, looking forward to your reviews. Link to review below.....

Well back with my second beer for today. I did manage a couple of chores between beers moved 3 kayaks and one canoe into the garage and got them up in the hangers, Put 4 of the bicycles up in hangers also just kept out my daily rider and our fat tire snow bikes. The sun actually came out for a few minutes but is gone again but at a balmy 59* according to my weather station.
My second beer for today comes from Shipyard Brewing and carries on my Halloween theme for today. Little Horror of Hops.

I will say good art work for the time of year on the label.
This beer poured a dark orange/brownish color with a thin white head on the top.
The nose is of a fairly malt forward style IPA with very faint hops in the background.
The taste is surely heavy towards the malt side with a lingering bitterness in the after taste. I'm not sure what hops were used in this beer but they except of the bitterness they provide don't offer much to the beer.
The mouth feel is good and may be the best part to this beer IMO.
This beer listed as an IPA is very heavy on the malt and not the type I lean towards but I have in the past found a few malt forward IPA's that were well done. IMO this doesn't fit that bill. The best by date was 06/10/16 so it appears to be fairly fresh unless they date there beers out a year? Sorry to say I bought a 6 pack but well not the first time I've done that. If anyone likes this beer let me know and I'll send you the rest.
I'll be back later on when I go over to the dark side.

750 mL bottle poured into a nonic pint glass.

Pours light purple with a ton of fizziness. A noisy head develops but rapidly dissipates, leaving a lively looking beer with a bubbly top. Carbonation is immense and relentless. This looks something deliciously fruity. 5

Smells jammy, rich with tart, acidic fruit, and some lemon. 4.25

Taste carries over the nose's offerings. Jammy and tart fruit flavor that is intense and similar to biting into a an underripe raspberry or blueberry. Lemon citric notes carry things out. It's a simple recipe but nice. 4.25

Tart and acidic with a light, well-carbonated body. Drinks like a charm, tart, but incredibly sippable. You'll want to keep drinking. Refreshing to boot. 4.25

Great fruit character and a good mid-Sunday beer if you are planning lots of new beers for New Beer Sunday.

I will write a bit of a footnote that the 2nd snifter out of the big bottle of Alesmith Speedway is definitely better than the first. I poured it a bit cooler than I usually pour stouts because I knew all of it had to be drank at once. The second snifter as it warms up brings out the chocolate a bit more and is a bit sweeter (but not in a sickly way). It kinda turns from dark to good milk chocolate as the temps go up
