Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @utopiajane for getting us started today. I made a very big beer haul on Friday after work, plenty of new beers to try once again. I am going to start buying less regular drinking brews for a week or two, my closet is overflowing with those haha.

    Here are today's new beers:

Very nice pale ale. Nice webs of lacing down the glass, with great head retention. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine; with moderate malts of caramel/toasted biscuit and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with a great hop/malt balance along with bitterness on the finish. Very smooth with balanced bready creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Overall, really well done and very enjoyable. The malt profile and hop balance is reminiscent of how Sierra Nevada goes about things with their harvest ales; and it has a really nice mix of hop complexity. 3.9
    [IMG]

Wow this was outstanding. Aromas and flavors of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, bourbon, oak, and light dark fruit. Light roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with a really great balance of the coffee/cocoa, malt, and barrel flavors; along with roasted coffee bitterness/sweetness after the finish. Medium-full bodied; with a moderate creamy/silky mouthfeel with some lightly sticky/chalky notes from the barrel, roast malt, and coffee/chocolate additions. The bourbon barrel presence was really awesomely balanced; some may say it is not enough, but it was still very noticeable and had zero booziness, unlike some BBA beers I have had in the past. The nose definitely out-stood the taste, but the taste was still really impressive. Nose was a complete coffee bomb with very distinct earthy/fruity coffee complexity; nearly identical to the Epic Baptist I had last weekend. Smoothness was top tier for 11%, my glass was gone fast. Only a small lingering warming after the finish. I will be getting a few more of these for sure. I had the chili pepper one yesterday, and it was a definite improvement over last year too in regards to the pepper heat/drink-ability. 4.22

Excellent Irish red! Aromas and flavors of big caramel, maple syrup, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, apple, brown sugar, toasted bread, light chocolate, oak, light bourbon, and light herbal/grassy hop notes. Light herbal bitterness and oak spiciness on the finish; with a really great balance between malt, maple barrel, and fruity yeast flavors. Medium carb/bodied with a nice moderate amount of creaminess/silkiness in the mouthfeel from the barrel and dark malts. Very smooth with zero warming ABV, but it's 5.8% so no surprise there. Overall, zero complaints at all. I really enjoy the regular base beer even though it has a 3.4 rAvg; but this version is much more mellowed out, less dry, and really well balanced between a lot of complex flavors; and has a really great mouthfeel to boot. Love it. 4.1

what's the best part about my favorite beer, Big Bad Baptist from Epic Brewing? It's the fact they keep having different releases so it's like a new version of the same great thing every time!
    • Release Number: 49
    • ABV%: 12.10%
    • Brew Date: 3/3/2015
    • Pack Date: 8/25/2015
    • Brewery: Denver
    • Malt: Maris Otter Malt, 2-Row Brewer Malt, Crystal, Light Munich Malt T1, 2-Row chocolate malt, 2-row black malt, roasted barley
    • Boil: Nugget, Chinook, Cascade
    • Spices: Novo coffee and Cocoa Nibs
third bottle release I've had, both #37 and #39 before were from Salt Lake, pours a thick pitch black with minimal lacing, been in the fridge so it's much colder than optimal temp and is being held more than being drank at the moment, bottle is sitting on the counter as well warming while waiting for the second pour, giant coffee smack you in the face flavor, rich dark chocolate and subtle bourbon flavor on the backend, at least subtle at this cooler temp, not as much brash whiskey flavor as SMS and thicker and fuller flavor than KBS is what sets it apart for me, also the fact I don't have to spend an arm and leg at the Fedex store to receive it, all around my favorite beer of all time and this fresher bottle has a carbonation quality hadn't had in the others I have acquired, if you have never had Baptist I highly recommend you seek it out, if you have and hadn't liked it I suggest try a different release, if you love the previous releases then like myself hoard as many as you can find, cheers NBSers!

Hello, fellow NBS-ers! Extremely late post for me, I was on the road a lot today. Today's new brew comes to me courtesy of @5EKF - so, we decided to do a tasting (this has to be the first NBS dual-tasting, right?):

We have here... Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel

This brew pours a beautiful opaque black with a lingering ring of coffee-colored lace that follows it down. To me, the nose is pungently boozy - but still enticing. The palate is not at all what was expected. Labeled as an oatmeal/coffee Stout, both @5EKF & I were expecting those to be more dominant components. What wound up being the star was massively bitter chocolate, tempered neatly by a rich, dark coffee quality. There was also a lingering berry note that was both tart & candied at the same time. As the beer warmed, I found this to be almost a medicinal flavor. The feel was where more of an oatmeal thing came into play. This brew is absurdly creamy & rich. I had described it as OB Ten Fidy with pillows. Very, very full body with delicate, small bubbles that add an extra dimension to the overall effect.

This brew is far above & beyond my expectations - & also happens to be one of my personal whales. A million thanks to @5EKF for making this NBS possible for me & for a thoughtful discussion/tasting to go along with it.

Wishing you all good beer & good cheer!

    Hello NBS people!!!!

Sharing this lovely Beer Geek Brunch Weasel with the likes of @MUTINY. Isn't it obvious from this picture?

Aroma-bitter, dark chocolate, coffee, creamy oatmeal, and some alcohol
Taste-loads of dark chocolate upfront, an espresso component as well, coffee is 2nd and a quick follow up and the oatmeal/coffee creamer after that with a slight dark fruit in the back end. The mouthfeel is a slick, creamy motor oil

Overall I very much enjoyed this beer; my first from Mikkeller actually. Had a wonderful talk about it with @MUTINY and very well might buy another bottle!!!

Try Mikkeller's Vanilla Shake next time instead of Weasel again, it's very good!

Well, on this late Sunday night/very early Monday morning I finally cracked open my bottle of Bell's Neptune The Mystic to end my weekend. What a fantastic beer this is! Out of all the beers I had in The Planet Series, this one is certainly the best. I sure hope this one is not permanently relegated to on-off status

Hello, everyone! This is my first time posting in New Beer Sunday, but since I usually try new beers on Sunday night anyway, I figured it would be aptly appropriate to post it here with a description of thoughts and a review.

The beer tonight is Long Trail's Limbo IPA, hopped with Galaxy. It comes in a orangey amber color with a slight haze and a small but sticky and lasting white head that leaves lacing. The beer smells of apricot, peach, passion fruit, tangerines, and pine resin dankness. There's a reason why Galaxy hops are one of my favorites.
Apricot, papaya, and passion fruit hit you up front. Near the finish a honey dew melon note hits me with tangerine peel bitterness. Malt taste is minimal but I detect a bit of toastiness and caramel. The aftertaste is mildly bitter with lingering pine resin and grapefruit pith. Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation average. Decent but typical mouthfeel all around, though I like how quaffable it is for leaning toward 8% abv.

All around, this is solid, and being able to have access to a year-round IPA hopped with Galaxy, I can't complain. I'd definitely buy this again.

    Cheers!
